That trade makes absolutely no sense. For two years of Doug Fister the Tigers got a pretty good Double A left handed starter in Robbie Ray, a utility infielder in Steve Lombardozzi and a left handed set up man in Ian Krol (Neuqua Valley HS). Something has to be up with the Tigers because that's a paltry return for a mid rotation starter like Doug Fister who also isn't very expensive.

The A's just picked up Jim Johnson from the O's for Ricki Weeks younger bro.

I think that Fister trade sets the market for Quintana/Santiago. If that is the return I would keep them both this year.

AJ went to Boston. I guess that tells you what they think of Salty.

What do you think it did to the Jeff Samardzija market? Theo and Co couldn't have been real happy when they saw that one come across the wire.

I just dont see why the Tigers would even want to get rid of Fister. There must be something more to the story.

i always loved that there was one guy who gave AJ a MVP vote in 2006. he had some sort of statement to make about the MVP voting process (or maybe it was about eventual winner justin morneau?) that his statement was AJ.

btw, 1yr/9mil for a catcher going into his age 37 season is good work if you can find it. he should hold a yearly skills camp and tell the kids to ease into the game and "find your power stroke" in your mid-late 30s. he got a raise for putting in a season with a ~90 OPS+ after a season with a ~120.

also doug fister will forever remind me of a cold and rainy night in late april / early may 2013 where he was on sunday night baseball facing mike minor and the braves. he's a much better pitcher than you oridinarily assume, so maybe he was the guy nailing prince's wife and detroit is 100% clear of the problems of yesterseason? oh and ian kinsler. that should hold off the indians.

oh yeah, and with the AJ signing theo and co should go try to get ryan lavarnway. that dude used to murder AAA/minors pitching for years b4 a couple of sporadic stint with the big club resulted in him shitting the bed and losing whatever prospect status he had. you can do a lot worse than going with him in terms of a lottery ticket at C til something better comes along the pipeline.

The Jim Johnson to Oakland move is a curious trade too. A $10M a year closer doesn't scream market inefficiency. Especially one coming off a season with an 84% conversion rate.

Astros acquired OF Dexter Fowler and a PTBNL from the Rockies for RHP Jordan Lyles and OF Brandon Barnes.

With all the pitching the Astros have on the way they can afford to move some now. Fowler was pretty good last season before a couple nagging injuries slowed him down. The Astros have CF George Springer in Triple A ready to go. I guess they move him to right.

Lyles hasn't been real good but he's still only 23 years old and gets his fair share of groundballs which should help him in Coors Field. Barnes is a 4th outfielder. The Rockies will move Car-Go back to CF.

So the Yankees are cutting payroll?? Ellsbury on the verge of signing a 7 year 145+ mil deal.

7/153 officially with an 8/169 option.

The deal includes an eighth-year option that could boost the total value to $169M.

Jacoby Crawford. They say this won't prevent them from signing Cano. Hell hath no fury like the Yankees missing the playoffs.

The Rockies have agreed to terms with Justin Morneau on a 2yr/$13M contract.

Their old unproductive first baseman retired so they sign another old unproductive first baseman to replace him. The Rockies: One step up and two steps back.

DEREK. SANDERSON. JETER. got paid 17mil to play in 17 games last season. in those 17 games he managed to be nearly a win below replacement level. i think that's gotta be some sort of achievement, right?

but then hey you're the goddamn yankees so what's ~3/50 for an overglorified mascot? i reckon they're gonna try and buy their way back to boston's level seeing as I can't remember the last time that I heard fuck all about some bigtime yankees prospect in their pipeline. was cano even considered to be a game-changing prospect when he was coming up?

also oakland seems to be having fun with this whole trade thing, shuttling off seth smith and others. people seem to think that they're even talking about moving anderson to the blue jays. the a's have now moved something like their 09-12 first round picks to acquire middling players, so hey sonny gray you're next on moneyball: the reality show.

also there's been a legitimate preponderance of catcher movement and the white sox have taken WWN's advice to stand pat. #IBelieveInJoshPhegley imminent. 2014 slogan = #TheKidsAreHere

The Royals have acquired RF Norichika Aoki from the Brewers in exchange for left-hander Will Smith.

Not a great return for a solid and very inexpensive player like Aoki. Smith was moved to the bullpen last year and had pretty good success. The trade will allow the Brewers to move Braun to RF and Khris Davis in LF.

It will be interesting to see if the Royals still pursue Carlos Beltran. Aoki is a good right fielder but I'm not sure if he can handle center. Maybe the Royals move Billy Butler and DH Beltran.

real nice deal for the Royals. Not sure what the Brewers are doing....but keep up the good work!

He wasn't going to start and he and his agent asked the team if he was going to be a 4th outfielder if they could look to move him to a place he would play more. I don't mind picking up a young arm for a guy that wasn't going to be here longer than this year anyway.

They already decided Davis would play over Aoki? Why would they do that? Why not keep both and let them battle it out? Aoki only makes $1.9M so it's not like they can't afford to keep both and see what happens. Just seems a little odd to me.
