   I read a another site Frank was given a six year deal at a million per.

Sources: Kidd, Frank had 'friction'
By Ohm Youngmisuk and Marc Stein | ESPN.com

NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd has reassigned Lawrence Frank to a reduced role and Frank will no longer sit on the bench as Kidd's lead assistant coach.

Multiple league sources told ESPN.com in recent weeks there was "friction" and a difference of philosophies between Kidd and Frank brewing since the start of the season.

Many figured Frank would be the perfect sounding board and mentor for Kidd in his first go-around as a coach. But sources maintain that Kidd and Frank's relationship changed at the start of the season with a difference of "agendas" affecting their working relationship. A breaking point was reached with this as the resolution.

"This is the decision that I had to make and we made it and we move on," Kidd told reporters before the Nets played the Denver Nuggets Tuesday night. "This is my decision in the sense of what I had to do. It's about basketball. That's it."

The Nets have decided not to try to pursue another veteran coach to take Frank's spot even though they came into the season believing Frank's presence was vital to help Kidd with the rare immediate transition from player to coach. One coaching source told ESPN.com that the Nets ultimately concluded -- as much as they want a coach at Kidd's side who's been around the block to "guide him" -- that this pairing would not work if Frank insisted on telling him "what to do."

Kidd said Frank has been reassigned "to doing daily reports" and that Frank will not be sitting on the bench or working practices moving forward. Kidd said he does not plan on adding another assistant.

"Just different philosophies," Kidd said of the move. "That's all. We'll figure out how to stop people [on defense]."

The move caught veteran point guard Shaun Livingston off guard.

"It's tough. Lawrence was obviously a voice, so that's the hardest part," Livingston said. "I don't think any of us saw this coming."

When the Nets hired Kidd to be a coach for the first time in his life, Kidd targeted Frank as his lead assistant. Frank, who was coach in Detroit for the previous two seasons, has a relationship with Kidd dating to his time as an assistant under Byron Scott on the New Jersey Nets' coaching staff when the Nets went to back-to-back NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003.

Frank replaced Scott and was Kidd's coach from 2004 to 2008, ranking as the Nets' all-time leader in victories. Originally, Kidd had his coaching staff set up with Frank orchestrating the defense and assistant John Welch handling the offensive duties.

Kidd opened his first season serving a two-game suspension, with assistant coach Joe Prunty moving from behind the bench to serve as the team's interim coach. Frank and Welch remained in their defensive and offensive coordinator-like roles, respectively, ostensibly for continuity.

But the Nets have had anything but continuity as they have been ravaged by injuries and chemistry issues that also extended to the coaching staff. This season, the Nets (5-12) have lost a total of 37 games due to injuries to six players. Kidd has had to use seven different starting lineups as Joe Johnson has been the only starter to start every game this season.

Defensively, the Nets were surrendering an average of 102.4 points per game, sixth-worst in the NBA, entering their game against Denver.

Frank's spot next to Kidd on the bench will instead by filled by Prunty, who has worked in the league as an assistant with four other teams (San Antonio, Dallas, Portland and Cleveland) and serves as a coach internationally with Great Britain.

"We'll be coaches, that is who we will be," Kidd said of who will handle the defense and offense moving forward. "There is no one doing offense, no one doing defense. We will take the responsibility of being coaches. That is how it will be set up."

"We move forward," Kidd added. "You learn. The big thing is I am focused and have to have these guys ready to go tonight."

KNOW YOUR ROLE!

I just heard about this on the radio. Nobody wants a subordinate telling them what to do unless of course your name is George W. Bush.

That's a decent comparison actually

This is a terrible move. Kidd will be gone before June

This crap only seems to happen in the nba. Right from player to head coach or to gm.

I wonder if Jason Kidd is a tortured soul.

He should be gone by tomorrow. It's obvious that he is in over his head, and he just silenced his top assistant and mentor. Dumb...

i would be absolutely shocked if everyone in the locker room hasn't completely tuned him out
there's no way they are listening to anything he says or showing him any kind of respect

i watched some of their game last night vs. the Nuggets and they just got torched- didn't even look like they were trying
there was a sequence in the late 3rd quarter where they had turnovers on 3 or 4 straight possessions and it just looked super sloppy. Denver is a solid team but you shouldn't be losing by 15, 20, 30 at home to a team like that
i believe i have defended Brook Lopez in the past but i will concede that Nas is right, he's soft as a pillow and pretty much worthless . i mean Timofy Mozgov was eating his lunch last night
the obvious problem with them is that their super old and slow, but the few players they have who aren't 80 years old like Lopez and Williams- suck

Shoulda spilled a pop after the second one and stopped the momentum

Nas was right?? I've only been calling him the most overrated player in the league for going on 3 years now.

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd does not think it will be difficult to move forward now that assistant Lawrence Frank will no longer be at practices and sitting next to him on the bench during games.

"He's working, he's giving his reports," Kidd said a day after he "reassigned" Frank to a reduced role. "Do I miss him? No. He's doing his job."

Asked whether it was difficult to reassign Frank, Kidd said, "L's still working, so there's no disappointment. We move on."

Asked what Frank's daily reports entail, Kidd responded, "Whatever you would like to write."

Asked again, Kidd responded, "A report. About the game."

So Frank will watch the games?

"Yeah," Kidd responded.

This is awesome.

Asked what his defensive philosophy is, Kidd said, "To stop them. To rebound the ball."

It would probably make the team better, sadly.

When does Kidd get fired? Those first round picks that they traded are looking like steals now. I can't believe they are this bad.

I hope he's never fired. These events over the past two weeks are fun bad now.

Yeah. He wasn't ready to be an assistant coach. Billy King still has a job and Lawrence Frank has lawyers.

i wish i had seen his press conference from last night

where do you go when you get pasted by a bottom 5 team ? it's just mind boggling...i kind of agreed with Kerr's comments last night that he thought they would at least contend this year. yeah, the deals weren't that good long term and the stars are old...but i thought before Rose went down they'd challenge the Bulls for the 3rd/4th best team in the East. it's one thing to not meet expectations, but to be THIS bad is just unbelievable. they are easily the worst team in the league

Douchebag, our definitions are not the same of that term.

Bagels, what a joke and the bullshit he comes out spewing yesterday on instagram and then trying to erase it. He has done himself no favors with this community that is for sure.

Blamed his hitting somebody over the head with a bottle on racism, and just other stupid shit. Basically took zero responsibility. By the way, he was out at this club at 2:00 a.m. as his 9 month pregnant wife was home waiting to give birth. This is just bad paper, and another in a laundry list of things that will turn out bad for the Bucks.

By the way, you never responded to my comment in the Bucks thread the other day.
