DB, I cant tell what you really think about this.
Do you think Townshend is a pedophile or is he a guy who was fighting against it and made a stupid mistake?
I'm leaning towards the side of believing his story. The police looked into it, and couldn't find anything on his computer. If he was doing something illegal, either he is amazingly good at covering his tracks (I highly doubt Pete Townsend is a big computer nerd), or he is being honest. It's definitely a case of very terrible judgement either way, but I can't see how he would have gotten away with it. It's possible that he's lying, but he would have to be a very good liar to make that disappear.
Yeah, that's where Im at.
Wouldnt let him near my kid, even though he's probably normal
Just to tie this to the dude from my high school. That guy was a big time computer nerd, knew his shit, and still was busted. I just don't think Townsend would be savvy enough to make something like this go away if he really was hiding something. Here's the article about the guy from my high school. I just about threw up when a friend of mine forwarded me this story a couple years ago.
Quote:
A man who served as a summer counselor at a (name redacted) camp has been ordered to serve 20 years in federal prison for child pornography offenses. Chief U.S. District Judge (name redacted) sentenced (name redacted), yesterday. Judge (name redacted) further ordered that (name redacted), pay restitution of $12,000 to identified victims and that he remain on supervised release for the remainder of his life following completion of his prison sentence.
On (date redacted), (name redacted) pled guilty to the three-count indictment returned by the grand jury on (date redacted). (name redacted), who had served as a counselor at Camp (name redacted) since 2000, has remained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest on (date redacted). At the time of his arrest, (name redacted) was employed as the camp’s Assistant Director.
According to court documents and information presented in court, (name redacted) came to the attention of law enforcement in (date redacted), during an investigation by law enforcement agencies in New York of a private peer to peer file-sharing network. Unlike other widely known P2P systems, the private network required that users know the person’s username before they could make contact to either trade files or chat. The requestor then was required to be manually accepted, adding a layer of security for child pornography trafficking. Furthermore, when files were exchanged, they were encrypted in an effort to avoid detection by Internet service providers.
Investigators with the (town name redacted) Police Department Computer Crimes Section, along with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of (redacted) identified (name redacted) online address. On (date redacted), law enforcement agents executed a federal search warrant where (name redacted) was residing.
According to court documents, during a forensic examination of digital evidence seized, agents recovered more than 13,000 images and more than 900 video files of child pornography, including images depicting bestiality, and sadistic and masochistic images of children from infants to teens.
The case was investigated by the FBI and (location redacted) Police Department.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet as well as to identify and rescue victims.
