In the spirit and tradition of the classic drinking game "Bob", I thought I would see what would happen if we applied it to radio hosts. I am amazed by the redundancy of phrases and presentations by on air talent that I thought it might be worth getting feedback. For those not sure of the game here's a reminder. If you remember Bob Papa who was the voice of games on the NFL Network, you'll remember his love of the phrase "in space". Each time he said it, you did a shot. You were probably buzzed by the end of the first quarter. Here are some that I've come to notice:

Zach Zaidman: Anytime he gives an answer in which he asks, then answers, his own question.

Doug Baffone: Anytime he uses the phrase "stop yourself". Or, anytime he says "Ya gotta take a look at..."

Mike Greenburg: Any reference to partner Mike Golic's weight.

This one will have you drunk in minutes: Ron Jaworski and any mention he makes of looking at tape.

If you've got some others I'd love to see them.

Bernstein does have guys at the organizations, but they are all media guys, who give him what info they want him to talk about. So while he has a source, its really annoying when he tries to talk about inside info and it comes from the director of media, who knows it will be on the radio the next day. Thats not exactly secret info.

Terry couldnt even get someone to answer a call for him at any of the teams, because nobody he knows is left there. Spiegs would at least get his call returned. Maybe no info. Leary would have Peanuts, Lances and B's side of it and thats it.

They only guy with a real source is Mulligan!

Any time that Mulligan says "on the way out" during an interview. That bothers the hell out of me.

classic radio 101, every guy does it with other words 'As we wrap this up." "Let me ask you one more thing before we let you go"

This is the bullshit that media people think makes someone a good interviewer. I could care less if they say that shit. Ask a question that makes the guy squirm a little, then follow it up. If the person says "I dont want to answer that" then you can drop it.

It's not about you, it's about the interview subject. Planting the seed that it's almost over gets people to drop their defenses a little bit if they're being difficult. They wouldn't do it or teach others to do it if it didn't work.
