Mack Brown stepping down.

Nick Saban?

Read someone today suggest Jim Hargaugh was the right fit.

I think Saban will take it.

Mack Brown says he's not stepping down. Guess Texas didn't tell him he was getting the boot.

Supposedly, the idea is to get Saban from Alabama by paying him something ridiculous like $8M per. This was being brought up going into this season and I think Texas boosters have been setting this up with Saban for a couple years. If he bites, that would be quite the coup. But no sports program can rake in more money than Texas since they have their own network.

If not, I think Tim Beckman could be had.

I am not sure what makes Saban tick. Being a living legend at Alabama for the rest of your life would be a cushy job. Probably not money maybe he just needs to keep ramblin every 5 years?

Yeah to you and I this makes sense, but to a guy with the ego the size of Saban this is an appealing situation. More money, one of, if not the best, recruiting bases in the nation, and he gets to get out of the SEC. I am sure in his mind he can get Texas to Bama's level relatively quickly and not have to deal with the other powerhouse schools each year. He can run through the Big 12 every year and have a shot at the national title.

 apparently his ego couldnt resist this opportunity

@dkurtenbach: RT @FollowtheFrogs: Source close to Texas executive council of regents says Nick Saban will be next Longhorns coach.

Texas essentially is Alabama in terms of football prestige and character but while Alabama boosters are dirt farmers Texas boosters are fools with more money than brains.

Pretty damn close.

And where else can you wander on to a quad and step back into the 60's on any given day.

I've heard 10 million/year for Saban and money from the Longhorn Network. He'd have them in the hunt if not next year then in year two. He'd go just to be the first guy to win titles at 3 different schools.

I don't see any of the pro guys taking this job. They will let their names be linked with it in order to get extensions and raises.

After the Saban and Petrino situations I was under the impression NFL head coaches have buyouts or out clauses in their contracts.

Saban set this all up a long time ago.

He was hoping for a second Dec/January of Saban coaching in the title game could be his last stories.

Whoops

At Texas, you have the shadow of Darrell Royal but he is not as widely known as the Bear. Saban could be known as a living legend there.

Until USC or Notre Dame or some other school throws money at him.

We said all these same things when he took the Bama job

He's 62 - he's got one more possible move left in him and that's it.

Texas should be the best job in America. Coaches have just underperformed.

Scary to call a 77% win percentage for Brown an underperform. But College football is a what have you done for me lately game.

Yeah. It's a little different being the top state school in a football crazy state. Saban won't even have to recruit. He can probably get the #1 class by only using text messages.

Ill defer to you on college football, but you could make that same case for Alabama and USC couldnt you?

That is a great point.

I also do not think he has many more moves left in him after this one.

Brown has done a pretty good job, but I do not know a Texas fan that does not think he also has underachieved with the amount of talent he has had over the years. What has he won, like 2 Big 12 titles in all his years?

Alabama, maybe, but USC, not so much.

As BRick said, top football school in a football crazy state. Expectations are so much higher than anywhere else.
