What does his contract look like?

The problem is that they're still getting to major bowls with him.

Doesn't matter that they get their asses handed to them at said games because the money's still the same.

I have often wondered this as well. But hasn't he had opportunities at Ohio St and Notre Dame in the past?

Seems like he is way more willing to just be the guy at OU and not really look to move on...

Those are both great jobs but Texas is the #1 school in one of the two richest high school talent pools in the country. Saban will have top 20 recruits knocking on his door begging him for a scholarship.

The Cali kids, yes, but I don't think USC had the national appeal that Texas does.

Most of it comes with the fact that the West Coast teams don't get a ton of national games (late start times and whatnot).

Stoops got an extension through 2020 - he'll make anywhere from 4.5 to 5.2M over the life of that deal.

He's not going anywhere, anytime soon.

Lovie Smith is always the back up plan to Saban

Saban has lost a total of 3 games the last 3 seasons (one in OT to LSU, one on the ridiculous last play vs Auburn, one at the end of the game vs. Heisman winner) and won 2 national titles during that time.

There are still Alabama fans bitching about the way this season ended up, that it was a bad year for them.

Although they aren't anywhere as big as with Tom Osbourne I'd put Nebraska in there as a big job
that I thought would be open after this season. Pellini got extended another year about one month
before the loss to Iowa. That is a football crazy state with some great tradition.

Its not like Texas was terrible last year. Telling RG3 no thanks and Johnny football he is playing defensive back because of Colt McCoy's younger bro probably doesn't do him any favors. One of those 2 or someone else really good said they were a huge UT fan and wanted to play there and he wouldn't even recruit them. I know I heard that story but can't remember who it was about.

They were terrible to start and managed to regroup a little.

They will continue to slide. This isn't gonna look good to recruits.

This is a disaster for Texas. It's not so much that they missed out on Saban. It's that they missed out on Saban and they still have a coach. They now probably have to work out a deal with Mack Brown to let him coach the bowl game, get his full payment which isn't a big deal, and then they have to hope they don't have to settle for Butch Jones.

This could be massive for Texas A&M. At least in the short term, they have a legitimate shot of becoming the prominent program in the state, and playing in the SEC and not having the stupid Longhorn Network they may actually be able to get on an even playing field with them long term.

Texas needs to get a big name. Luckily they can pay for it.
