So is 5 years at 85, with 40 guaranteed really that much different than 5 years at 80 with 35 guaranteed? No.

Is that extra money really gonna make or break your cap? That's really gonna effect your football team to the point that you can't get a decent roster? No.
Both are still way too high for a slightly above average starting quarterback. If we were talking about Philip Rivers who has shown signs of being elite then it would be fine.

Cutler will likely be the 10th-15th best QB in the league his whole career. He's closer to Carson Palmer than you want to admit.

I know. We've heard your stance. You don't want him back no matter the money. I do like him. So do the Bears. Just saying that he'll sign for 17 per year average.

We'll see. I think it would be pretty stupid to sign him to more than the franchise tag.

No. I'm right. I'm simply telling you what's going to happen. When it does, I'll bring the thread back up and you'll have to apologize. You won't. Everybody who calls me stupid and/or wrong hides when I'm proven to be right.

So you are locked in on $17+ million a year with $40+ million guaranteed and no franchise tag?

It would be idiotic for the Bears or anyone else to sign Cutler to a big contract. Jay is an average QB. Check his career stats.

If Trestman likes Cutler (and I'm not sure he does), there is no advantage to extending him long-term vs the franchise tag simply due to the injury factor. (Although, as JORR pointed out, Cutler would likely pout if tagged.)

It may not be Trestman that likes him. It could be Emery.

Why would anyone who doesn't have to live in a trailer want to live in Tennessee?

Nashville & the surrounding area is great...and cheap as hell.

Yeah, it's not like Jay Cutler is some anonymous middle manager who can get more house for his money in exurban Nashville than he can in Arlington Heights. He makes millions and millions of dollars! Live somewhere awesome!

Are you telling me that if you hit the lottery, you would move to the surrounding area of Nashville?
