Deadspin posted an interesting chart the other day ranking teams in order of the least amount of QBs started over the past 14 years. Of course the Bears finished near the bottom, third to last, only "better" than the equally incompetent Dolphins and Browns.

They also list each QB starter per year, which led me to recall the horrible QB committee of 2004:

Chad Hutchinson (1-4)
Craig Krenzel (3-2)
Jonathan Quinn (0-3)
Rex Grossman (1-2)

:pukel: indeed

I think this provides an interesting backdrop to the debate about retaining Cutler. I'm sold on Trestman's ability to coach up QBs, but at the same time there's no way I want go back to the misery of watching the Bears draft/sign the likes of Krenzel, Quinn, and Burris. Of course there's always the possibility they could draft/develop a stud, but the chart doesn't provide much hope for that kind of future, even though of course Angelo's and his predecessor's past history has no bearing on future outcomes.

Jonathan Quinn should not even be in that batch and is a 100% reflection on how bad of offensive mind Lovie was. yes, I know Lovie didnt hire him, but he came as a package with his Oc of choice. His 1st OC of 5 he chose? and none came even close to being good.

This is what scares me the most about them thinking they can get away with drafting a qb after the first round and developing them. I want the best available quarterback. Draft defense with every other pick in the draft. The first one must be a quarterback.

I don't agree with you on Lovie in general - I think he was/is an excellent coach, and can be great if he gets serious about offense, but even as a fan of Lovie I can help but agree with you here. Turner brought some stability and experience I guess, but the rest were colossal failures, and Lovie's inability to find the right OC combined with Angelo's scouting ineptness set the Bears offense back each season.

Quinn might be the worst quarterback in the history of the NFL.

There's some Bear QB futility going on as we speak.
