You're going to have to explain it to me. I don't get it.

That's a radar gun circa 1953.

Old Hoss had some pretty good seasons. Today his nickname would be Work Hoss Radbourn.

In other words, they probably do throw as hard, but the technology sucked, so 88 MPH may have been 99?

Mike Marshall...excuse me...Doctor Mike Marshall does present some good evidence for throwing more.

Maybe , but so were the "machines" that timed them.

I thought Feller was timed as the fastest pitch along with Nolan Ryan

I believe Nolan Ryan still holds the record for fastest pitch, at 100.8 measured at the plate (as shown in Keyser's pic). Nowadays they measure speeds at the pitcher's release point, which is normally about 10 mph faster than when it crosses home. So Ryan would have been at almost 111 if measured today.

Used to like watching Nolan. Wasn't Mike Scott or some other Astro a hard thrower?

I think Scott threw the screwball and dominated LH hitters. He had that one fantastic season with a ton of strikeouts.

Not a screwball. A Vasoline ball.

Nolan Ryan is a jackass

Mike Scott ostensibly threw a splitter along with a good fastball . Believe he was an accused scuffer though. Other notable hard throwing Astros were Larry Dierker and James Rodney Richard.

Yeah I remember Scott now as the splitter that dropped a ton. I vaguely remember it was either the nail file or goop.
