He was terrible in the lions game. He was pretty good in the steelers and mn games but those aren't good teams. I need better!

IMO the Giants game was his best game of the season. His rating says the Saints game but once again numbers lie. He padded his stats when the game was over. He looked great in the first half of the Lions game at home but should have been benched in the 3rd quarter.

His receivers dropped a couple in the saints game.

Yeah I wasn't convinced I was seeing a New And Improved Cutler in those first three games, despite the wins and the decent play, but in games 5 and 6 he really did look different. We don't know what would have happened if not for the injury. Hopefully we'll see more of it in the next two weeks and hopefully a few weeks more than that.

I think it's the same Cutler as always. I've generally been a Cutler backer, and I've always pointed to the abysmal line play and the lack of weapons for why he didn't put up the numbers he should. But I've never claimed he isn't prone to costly errors. The offense is leagues better than before, and he's consequently putting up better numbers, but he's still what he was. Hopefully that's enough.

Makes it worse that he can't outperform the guy who has been out of football for the last couple years

Can someone post a link to these Cutler 4th quarter statistics? I want to see how he compares to other quarterbacks.

This is from last year USA Today -

Through seven games, he (Cutler) has the best fourth-quarter passer rating in the NFL (132.0) — a notch above the Denver Broncos' Peyton Manning (119.6) and the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers (110.6).

Quick Shots: Jay Cutler is one of best at comebacks

Few think of Jay Cutler as a great comeback quarterback, but he led the NFL in fourth-quarter passer rating last year (114.7) and a Fox Sports graphic Sunday claimed Cutler has 19 fourth-quarter comeback wins since 2007, behind only Peyton Manning and Matt Ryan.

It’s really 15; he has 19 game-winning drives, but four times the game was tied.
But Cutler’s two comebacks this year match his total for the previous two seasons combined. His only comeback win in 2011 came on the first drive of the fourth quarter against the Eagles.
Last year, he completed 12 of 14 passes in the fourth quarter (after only seven completions before then) to lead the Bears to 10 late points in a last-second 23-22 win over Carolina, but the biggest fourth-quarter play in that comeback was a pick-6 by Tim Jennings.
Still, Cutler has long been better at comebacks than he’s been given credit for.

So, if we decide to value these statistics we are saying Jay Cutler is comparable to Manning and Rodgers?

If you decide to do that, then he would be comparable because you'd be comparing them.

You could say the same thing about Tony Romo.

I'm just trying to figure out if these statistical subsets pass the smell test.

I mean yeah, it's great that Jay Cutler is elite in one quarter of the game, but either it doesn't tell enough of the story or it indicates that Cutler is equal to future hall of famers.

The story is he is elite in the 4th quarter, and not elite in others.

What does that tell us though?

Overall, he's not that good?

Obviously not as good as McCown.

I think it tells us he's really good in the 4th, and less good in the others.

Unless I'm going to get a better explanation I'm going to think that it really doesn't tell us much.

What needs to be explained other than he's very effective late in games? Are you saying that he isn't or it is a coincidence? Please explain.

Rick why can't you be happy that the franchise quarterback was good for 1 quarter against a 4 win team? Sign this motherfucker. NOW

So is he just god-awful in the other 3 quarters? Or at least well below-average? He has a mediocre career QB rating, so that tells me he is pretty bad the rest of the game.

Is it just a statement of fact? If so, that's fine.

I'm trying to figure out what the relevance is. If it is that he plays good in 1/4th of the game and that is all then I say thank you for the interesting factoid.

Well, it stemmed from last night's discussion where I stated that he's been excellent in late-game clutch situations and then you asked for statistics.

So, you are welcome.

Didn't you literally ask for the fourth quarter stats? Don't be a dick when someone does something for you.

After looking at the link I shared, why does Cutler suck on turf? That's crazy. Cutty on grass FTW!

If by "good at times" you mean "the best in the NFL during the most important time of the game" then, yes, we can move on.

Maybe you don't think that statistic is a fair representation. That's fine.
