Brandon Williams finally made the first exciting play by either team of the second half. too bad he didnt take it all the way. Very nice return though

I don't know what getting a sack in the 4th quarter of a preseason game means, but I do know that I'd rather see Dan Bazuin get a sack than not get a sack.

Ditka is, per usual, wrong. The QB isn't pointing to the guy who can't be picked up. When playing a 3-4, he's identifying the mike. The offensive line schemes change depending upon which MLB is considered the mike on a given play.

This is turning into some nail-biting action. 31-28! Who will win! I can hardly contain my excitement.

Mike Ditka's endorsement of the Bears' quarterback situation does not leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Overall Summary: Rex played good, but did not leave Bears fans feeling very confident that he has put his mental frustrations behind him. Benson barely showed up, but he didnt get injured and has showed enough to warrant optimism from the position going into the regular season. Adrian Peterson demonstrated again he is more then capable of being a good backup RB. The WR's showed as much as you could hope for. Olsen didnt have a very flashy exciting play, but he also has done nothing that would warrant any doubt about his value as a NFL TE. The O Line did what was expected of them. The Defense played great, despite the 28 pts allowed. That was either in the 2nd half or skewed because of INT TD or turnover at the 5 yd line. This game against the 49ers seemed to show the Bears are in top form, ready for the regular season

Rex detracts from the team, plain and simple.

Tony Romo turns the ball over plenty, and Carson Palmer had more turnovers last year than Rex Grossman. A couple of the rest of those guys are truly rarified air- I'm not asking for Manning or Brady, or even Bulger or Brees. Hasselbeck territory looks OK by me, and I think that's what a consistent Rex gives you.

the offense rex is good at is in the sec. i truly don't think rex would even standout at texas or ohio state. rex can't even dump a pass off in to the flat without throwing an interception. this guy is not nfl material!

23 TDs last year is pretty good for not being NFL material. Give me a break. It's one thing to think he shouldn't be the starter, but to take it to that level is a joke.

Reading is a skill, I never said he wasnt NFL material, actually if you read my comments I said he could be a Pro Bowler in his career. He is simply too immature and not focused or concentrated enough to take the Bears to where you guys want them to go. Ill bring this back up in January if you prefer

Why do you suppose that is Nas? Probably cuz the guy costs the Bears games. I dont care either way, ill be glad to bump all these threads in January after Rex turns it over 4 times and the Bears lose in the playoffs 17-13 to some team lucky enough to see Bad Rex in the playoffs

Look, even the best quarterbacks are capable of throwing up stinkers (see the great Brett Favre and his rating of 70.2 or below in 4 different playoff runs). Rex is a young QB entering his prime. His development has been derailed by injuries. He has the potential to be very good. Not hall of fame good, but top 3 QB in the NFC good. I'll take that. Meanwhile, Brian Griese has the potential to be a middle-of-the road starter at best, which makes him a serviceable back up, but not somebody you want leading your team.

That is EXACTLY the mentatility that will prevent you guys from winning the SB. If you actually read my comments about him, you will find that I agree with you. top 3 in NFC. However you are wrong about entering his prime. Tonight is another fine example of how Rex is not mature enough mentally to perform well after making mistakes. If you guys prefer to live with your head buried in the sand that is fine, just dont blame Rex when he ruins your season in January again, blame your own opinions of him previously and blame Lovie for not giving the job to someone capable of carrying the team where they need to go

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to take any blame for Rex performing badly because I'm rooting for him to do well and think he is capable of doing just that. That doesn't make any sense.
The Bears got beat in the Super Bowl by a better team. Brian Griese playing his best doesn't win that game for them.

Reading is a skill. I said dont blame rex, not dont blame yourself.

You didnt watch the same Super Bowl I watched if you believe your last sentence. Did Rex not flush away the game when it was still winnable in the 4th quarter with yet another turnover?

Apparently, remembering what you wrote is a skill.
I don't get it. When did Brian Griese turn into a world beater? Last I checked he was a guy that couldn't hold on to the starting job in Tampa or Miami.

He actually had a few good seasons in Denver. 6 years ago. But I'm sure that success would have carried over to the Super Bowl, which he would have no doubt lead the Bears to and won.

How old was Favre when GB won the superbowl? 25? 26? Rex is 27.
I don't think I am (or Nas is) blindly defending Rex. I realize his shortcomings and I'm willing to live with them because of some of the throws he can make when he's on. I think that YOU'RE blindly defending Griese when he hasn't shown that he's capable of running a playoff team EVER.

This is why I find you guys so amusing. Discrediting Brian Griese WILL NOT improve Rex Grossman, no matter how much you want it to. I have stated many times that I dont know if Griese is the answer this year, I just know I have watched football long enough and seen enough of Rex to know that he isnt. If you couldnt see last year's super bowl performance by him coming from a mile away, then you were watching the games with rose colored glasses on just the same way you are watching Rex so far this preseason.

There is a reason the guy does not have a contract extention yet.

Reading my mind is a skill you have Scott because I was thinking the same thing.

With our defense and offensive line, all we need is for Rex to stop taking the stupid pills and look a the scoreboard...if we're winning by a couple of TDs or even down by a TD, we don't need to score on just one play. Stop playing like it's the last play of the game. He'll be fine, he's got 16 games to figure it out before it counts.

More importantly, if our defense stays healthy all year (Tommy Harris & Mike Brown, I'm talking to you), they might as well start engraving Chicago Bears on the Lombardi tropy as Super Bowl champions

Farve one min you say Grossman played well then the next you say he was the exception. He was the least of the Bears worries.

actually if you read all my comments you will see they are pretty consistent.

bottom line is Rex will be a very good QB in the future, or at least he has the talent to be, but as of right now I dont see the mental capacity for him to over come the mistakes and get back on the field and perform well. When he makes a bad play or two, it manifests into several bad plays. Untill he can change that the Bears WILL NOT win a super bowl. I personally dont think he can change that this year
