Adrian: I've never been in a man's apartment

Rocky: They all look the same.

Adrian: You have a phone?

Rocky: No. It's too distracting. You want me to call your brother? I can call your brother (Opens window, yelling). Ay Yo Paulie, yours sister is with me!!!! I'ze talk to you later!!! Bye!!!!

Those were some great comedic lines.

Well, that was kind of gay. Not that there's anything wrong with it. But, ya know, not in a Rocky movie.

Rocky III is when Hollywood took over the scripts, so you gotta be a little gay. The first two were all Stalone's influence. Wrote the first one for sure. Think he basically wrote all of Rocky II but not sure.

I'd say the emotional apex was just before that, when Creed sends him to the canvas with the wild uppercut (right after "what is keeping him up?"). Rocky struggles to gather himself and eventually gets up, with Creed looking on in disbelief and pity that he has to resume the fight.

Yeah, I meant the whole part you described. Awesome. Apollo looking away is just perfect and the announcer calling it worked perfect "Apollo can't believe it"

Agreed. That was a great movie moment. The viewer felt Creed's empathy and Rocky's heart/determination.

Wepner actually did that in the fight with Ali

It was more of an arms out "come at me bro"

But then after he knocked down Ali using the foot he got Wang Whipped the rest of the fight

The bayonne bleeder inspired the script.

Wepner didn't make the decision hard to predict, but he avoided the knockout. He proved he weren't just another bum from the neighborhood.

A couple more fun facts.....Rocky was produced in just 28 days and cost just 1 million, 75 thousand dollars to make!

It is kinda of funny that my 14 y/o son asked me a few weeks ago for all the Rocky DVD's. He loves them apparently. Classic.

Only IV has any long-term rewatchability. And that's because it is so deliciously cheesy. I is too long but it's a classic and the best film. II and III are kind of just there. III, of course, has the above referenced gay training montage, which places the movie in its own special little place of 80s gaydom. V is terrible but has great lame lines. Balboa was ok, I guess. I didn't think much of it the first time and would never watch it again.

But, if I see IV or V on the tube I will tune in for a bit.

You don't think the training and fight in 2 make it awesome?

Spoiler Alert...

I think the best part of Rocky Balboa is that he doesn't win the fight. It ties up the series quite well.

Agreed Frank and they made it as realistic as they could with the thing that happens to Dixon during the fight that allowed Rocky to compete

Absolutely. Its completely plausible that a similar set of events could happen to an an aged boxer today.

Rocky III was bad

Rocky IV was meh

Rocky V was absolute garbage

Have no desire to see the last one

Rocky was BEST PICTURE in 1976. To say it was "fine" only shows a lack of taste and judgement on your part. It was a GREAT story that was brilliantly directed (Best Director also). To say 2-5 were fine or okay makes a lot of sense to me, even though they had great fight scenes and very entertaining moments. By not bothering to watch Rocky Balboa, you may well be missing the 2nd best movie of the bunch, but anyone who describes the Original installment as OK, does not deserve to see it anyway.

Fuck off for telling me what my opinion should be.

There are a great deal of widely praised films that the acedemy loves that I think are a solute shit.

In short, Merry Christmas and fuck off.

Critics often like movies many people aren't particularly fond of. But the films that WIN the awards were voted on by SAG members. These are actors/other members who objectively vote on those nominated after watching the movies (which are sent to members free of charge.-as long as your dues are paid)not by the academy board. Sure, some of those nominated over others may be questionable, but the winners generally are very deserving and with ROCKY there was no question. The film getting 10 award nominations and winning 3 awards, was not a case of a film with a political slant favored by the board getting undeserved consideration for a nomination, but deserved recognition for a great film. The fact you have little appreciation for that historically exceptional film is just reflective of a lack of good taste. I am not telling you what to like. I'm just telling you that you are stupid.
