It still blows my mind about FFF. Living near the brewery, I never looked at their beer as some amazing thing. I like it but I guess I'm just spoiled by always having it available.

Northwoods Brewing Kelly's Stout: decent but nothing special. Hint of chocolate in it. Lakefront Fuel Cafe.. damn forgot how much I liked this one.

I was fortunate enough to go to the Jackie O's release this past weekend. It was the first time I legitimately felt bad for not being on Untappd, as it would have come in handy for tracking and remembering the ridiculous amount of beers I tried.

Bottle info: this batch of Rum Oil of Aphrodite is even boozier than usual for them and I didn't really hear anything positive about it from anyone there. The barrel-aged saison seemed like the most popular of the released bottles but was limited to one per customer. Bourbon Coffee Oil of Aphrodite was probably the best beer I had there, but unfortunately bottles were limited to their reserve society.

That is awesome. I didn't think anyone other than myself even knew Jackie o's existed. They have canned a few beers recently and distributed them but they have been an amazing off the radar brewery for a while.

Dammit...I had no idea they had a bottle release last weekend. I was in Athens Thursday and Friday and was unaware. I was there for Ohio Brew week when they opened the tap house addition and it was simply amazing.

Chus would love this place. Their appreciated for phish and good beer is probably rivaled only by him.

Weather and traffic was really bad. Had to audible.

Got halfway there and turned around - got a couple "In your Face" IPA's and a growler of YoLo from Nevin's Brewing instead.
Then stopped for couple beers and dinner from mcbrides.

I opened a Goose Island Christmas Ale from 2009 that my brother in law got me. I split it with him and it was the best Christmas beer I've had yet. The hoppy bitterness really wasn't all that overpowering and it was a damn good drink.

I went to the Two Brothers Tap House yesterday afternoon. Not only did they have Hop Centric on tap, which was only $12.99 for growlers (regularly $22.99), somebody brought this to share, an I got a taste:

$250 for the bottle, 27% ABV

I tried to get the bartender's rear end in the shot. I did my best.

Hi, Spanky.

My friends got me Utopias for a wedding gift. It was phenomenal. I have the bottle housed in a lighted display to this day.

I have one from 2011 behind my bar.

Hi, Chus.

Drinking a couple TB sidekicks today. Never had that $250/bottle stuff. Never heard of it. I can't even afford to look at that pic more than once.

I'm going to do a little day drinking brew tour before the Lawrence Arms show tomorrow. I am thinking I will take the bus down to Damen/Milwaukee. It looks like Piece, The Map Room and then a little walk to Revolution are on my list of places to hit. Anyone know of anything else cool around that area? I've been to the map room and I actually thought it sucked but this was before chicago got really into the craft stuff and it was just belgians i had already had and there was no fucking room to even move around inside there. Piece was cool but i just went for some pizza and I have never been to the Revolution tap room.

If you are going strictly for beer and not food, Half Acre usually has at least a dozen beers available at their place, most of them exclusive to that place. No food though. You can bring food in.

Revolution has great food (and beer)

Big Star is around the corner from Piece and has great selection of beers and mixed drinks, and the tacos are bad ass, but it will be really crowded. You may be able to sneak a seat at the bar.

I have all day to eat food. We are going to dick around the area all day so its no big deal if a place has any or doesn't. Half acre seems to be up where we are staying/parking the car for the day. Might have to hit that before hopping on the bus. I will give the Big Star a look as I am always down for some tacos. Hopefully they aren't jam packed in the early afternoon.

Having this for the first time tonight. If anybody else likes the over-the-top strong Hops flavor like I do, I'd suggest picking some up if you can. It's fantastic. Wow. :drunken:

I've always found the food at Big Star to be incredibly overrated. Plus, it's more or less a dump for all of the yuppie-hipster hype surrounding it.

Anyone who goes to the Half Acre tap room should strongly consider getting a burger across the street at Bad Apple, which is consistently phenomenal. Nice beer list, too.

Completely agree. I'm a big fan of Bad Apple. The beers and mixed drinks are fantastic. The fries are great as well.

I'm a little concerned about the "Check, Please" effect though.

I didn't realize it had been featured on that show. I have relocated to New England and could go for a Bad Apple burger right about now.

They? You mean there really is a "they"??? I knew it!

FWIW, my political views lie much closer to anarchism--as defined by Kropotkin in the late 19th century--than communism, although my understanding of class struggle, the dialectic and state power is informed by Marx, Gramsci, Lukacs, Althusser, Laclau and Zizek as well as, oddly enough, Kojeve and Lacan.

I did. I decided to try it again though and it was great. I guess it was because I've tried so many other different xmas beers that I wanted to see if my thoughts changed on it. I'm happy with the choice.

She hasn't had beer in probably a year. She's a wino now.

Please don't tell her I said that.

No seriously

I picked up a Solemn Oath Ravaged by Vikings bomber last Friday. Also have been feeling like shit since then, so I've yet to crack it open. Need to kick this bug, so I can enjoy beer again!
