In almost every case these contracts are just dumb.

For a 30 year old 2nd baseman it is beyond done. He'll give them 2 to 3 good years before he has a sharp decline. That's what historically happens to them.

He's juicing, so might buy him a couple more years.

Hova didnt get his 30 mill

$60M short= FAILURE

Plus, anybody that would leave the undisputed most famous franchise in history for the Seattle Mariners is prima facie mentally imbalanced. The last time I checked, the Seattle Mariners have won as many World Series titles as I have, which is zero (0). I predict that this move will be a bust for the hapless Seattle Mariners, kings..... of not winning World Series, that is - ha ha ha!

How would you have felt if the Yankees re-signed him for the same amount?

Pretty good, I guess - ha ha ha!

It is very much like Godfather II. Michael, of course, loved Fredo because they were brothers. However, when Fredo took sides against the family, he was cast out by Michael and ultimately assassinated on Lake Tahoe.

Robinson Cano is Fredo Corleone. I will cast him out but I will not, however, assassinate him.

I don't want anything to happen to him, while my Mother's alive.

Why wouldn't the Yankees give Cano $200M? They've given out a lot of bad contracts.

I guess Jay Z did a pretty good Scott Boras impersonation and somehow got the Mariners to pay $50m more than the next highest team.

Could turn out to be the worst contract in sports history...depending on whether Pujols bounces back.

Are their any articles out there that thinks this deal is a good idea?

Has a ten year deal for a player over 30 ever worked out?

Read where Steven Drew turned down a 1 year 14 million qualifier from Boston which was a 5 million raise from his 2013 salary. So let me get the straight, some team out there is going to give a shortstop who hit .253 with 13HR's and a .777 OPS more than 14 million a year with multiple years? Lordy, the madness just won't stop.

The Mets and Bartolo Colon have agreed to a 2yr/$20M contract.

Take your steroids Kids. They'll help you to grow big and really really rich.

I do not have a magic computer like Bill James, but that seems like really bad money spent. But it is the Mets, so what do you expect from those second rate losers?

Ha ha ha!

The Royals and Omar Infante have agreed to terms on a four-year, $30MM contract, reports ESPN's Buster Olney (Twitter links).

Pitcher Gavin Floyd is close to signing a one-year deal with an unknown team, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun tweets. Encina indicates that that team is not the Orioles, who were known to be interested in Floyd.

Floyd missed most of the 2013 season after having Tommy John surgery in May. In 168 innings with the White Sox in 2012, he posted a 4.29 ERA with 7.7 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9.

The Braves have signed Gavin Floyd to a 1yr/$4M deal. The one year contract also includes $4.5 million in performance-based incentives.

That seems to be the going rate for a pitcher coming back from arm surgery though this one has quite a bit in incentive money. They're hoping he's ready by mid-May. I have my doubts. This probably takes the Braves out of the Jeff Samardzija trade market.

In the old days, Id expect Floyd to win 19 games and have his best season. Not sure Braves have the Magic anymore

Now that would be if the Cardinals signed him

Choo to the Rangers for 7 years.

Dollar numbers haven't been released but it's safe to say it will be far too much.

rumor is that choo turned down 7/130 with the yankees (even after ellsbury).... to jump all over this deal which is.... 7/130.

i reckon the yankees called boras' bluff by signing beltran over choo and then once they got the same yrs/$$$ offered choo was prolly like "come on now"

did you lot cover youkilis going to japan? biggest name to do that since goose gossage, arguably.

The years would concern me since he basically goes happy gilmore in the batters box just wearing every pitch that even hints at being inside.

edit: woops, the original post went through. i assumed it didn't since i had to re-login and everything, with the perfunctory page-backs not leading to my post i figured that it was lost in a timeout.

7/130 for Choo is insanity. He's 31 and struggles against lefties, so yea, let's give him 18.57M per for the next 7 years.

Absolute insanity.
