Took our girls to see Frozen today at the local movie theater. Pull up to a stop light and look over and see Jim Bob and Bertha jamming out to their favorite eight track. Both had a lit cigarette in their hand. There was a fog in the car from so much smoke.

The scene at first made me chuckle as they were in their own world jamming out. But then something horrific caught my eye, that of a car seat in the back seat. Car seat had a baby maybe 6 months old.

What the fuck is wrong with people? Now I have no problem with people who choose to smoke. That is their choice and if they want to fuck their lungs up then so be it. But why in the world would you smoke in such a confined space such as a car with a little baby? I can only imagine how bad that is to such young lungs.

I wanted to get out of my vehicle and beat the fuck out of both of them. If you have kids and you cannot discipline yourself enough to not smoke in a vehicle with them then you should promptly slit your wrists and do your kid and the rest of us in the world a favor.

Gotta figure Mom smoked through the 9 months of pregnancy too. Didn't this debate come up not too long ago here?

That is a good point. I bet Bertha lit up the entire time. Piece of trash.

You're somewhere in Missourah, aren't you, RFDC? Everyone smokes there. Pittsburgh, too.

yeah in Missouri, but I really doubt a bigger percentage of the population here smokes compared to Illinios/Chicago. And a lot of places here are pushing hard for smoke free cities. Springfield MO recently went through a whole deal here of getting approved to be smoke free.

A little second-hand smoke never killed anyone. At least there's no convincing evidence that it did. Do you worry about your kid breathing in all that Drakkar Noir or Michael Kors cologne that you're slapping on? How about the emissions that the car you're driving the kid around in is spitting out into the atmosphere?

As usual Bagels and JORR are right on. My mom and dad both smoked and I turned out fine.

Except for the chronic bronchitis and asthma as a child... But I grew out of that and I am a better person for it.

make those checks payable to your local department of revenue!

why stop there tho? why not have mandatory SecuriCams in everyone's living room cuz if they're willing to smoke in the car with the kid no doubt they're willing to smoke in the house with the kid. maybe make it so all families have to have no less than two cameras in the primary "family room" area tied into the CCTV network.... cuz what if they smoke weed or do other drugs? THIS IS A CHILD WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, and if we don't act now these kids could be scarred forever.

people should welcome the CCTV network unless they have something to hide.... and given the state of society en masse in this facebook/cellphone era, there's no reasonable expectation of privacy or anything and we've gotta do our part make sure that kid grows up to be a good worker who pays off his debt to society... it takes a village, you know. not to mention think of all the jobs created by needing people to install/monitor the cameras.... win/win/win however you look at it. let's save the children!

You really shouldn't make little kids breathe cigarette smoke in a car, though. I'm biased, of course; I'm highly sensitive to cigarette smoke and couldn't go to my best friend's house in 2nd grade without erupting into something of a two-hour coughing fit.

Will the people you donate cars to for lung cancer still take the car if it's been smoked in?
