These two get sports talk radio more than just about anyone else at the station. Fun, appreciative, bonding radio. They may not be polished and their thoughts may be wrong more often than correct but in terms of approach, this is what won fans over to the station at its inception. It's sad to have another year end and see them get put in mothballs. I know it has to be this way.

Bernstein would disagree. He's gotten rid of most of that stuff.

He wouldn't disagree if I told him I had an advanced degree before making the statement.

In that case, you're too smart. You dont know what goes on. He understands why you're wrong

Gotta give these 2 old farts credit. They drag their 70 year old asses out to some bar every week, watch the game with a bunch of people they dont know, they spend all night there talking about it.

Its a long day for anyone, but these guys actually love what they do.

They dont sit in a studio with a bunch of interns getting them sandwiches, "TALKING" for what comes out to be about 2 hours a day. Might need a few days off if I had such an exhausting job

Kudos

Very well stated. I have had the same thoughts. Why does it have to be that way? Give them a general sports show once a week, that would be inspired broadcasting and I bet it would be a hit, too!

Before the usual clown brigade attack me,wasn't Jiggs on for years talking everything at the SCORE?

Doug and OB are the best. Right at the end Doug said, "We'll see you next year."

Good news!

Not quite the same, but Doug used to do a football show on weekday evenings before Mac came back to the Score, and it was pretty solid. Sometimes Hub was his co-host.

I don't know if Doug and OB have the chops or the desire to do a general sports show. Doug, maybe, but probably not OB. He seems happy just doing his little part-time gig.

I don't know either but it would be way better than the weekend group of interns/producers/sandwich chasers they usually have.

They really sounded down last night rather than pissed off. Early in the show there was a guy screaming "Bearrrrsss!!!" that apparently was hustled off by Kim Jong Un's goon squad and took Doug and OB by surprise.

They keep saying that but they are old enough that one of these times it will not be true and not because of Mitch. That thought made me sad at the end of their show.

I saw them live at Mr D's (arlington) a few weeks ago -- I think after the Cleveland game. The turnout was very low which was disappointing.

Apparently OB recently fell off a ladder. He was not walking very well.

Regardless, the low turnout and OB's aches and pains did not lessen their Fire and Pashin!

So you want Mitch to kill them?

Doug will be 70 and OB will be 74 next year. I bet Doug would take a show if offered as he still has a relatively young family from a late marriage. OB made his money. This is just for fun.

I wouldn't want either of them to have a regular year long shift. They are good where they are. Maybe give them Monday nights after games as well. I hate when they get cut off by SNF, some shitty college basketball game or a Score intern show.

Fans talking to fans. That was the dream of the Score when it was invented. Somewhere along the line li'l danny bernstein came along and was given carte blanche to corrupt that ideal and turn the station into doctor and lawyer wannabes scolding fans. Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike North did as much to ruin this for the SCORE as Bernsie.

I disagree.

North made mistakes but Bernstein has actively tried to drive all joy out of being a sports fan

He LOATHES sports fans

I am not saying Bernsie did not have a big role in it.

But North thinking he could branch out and do more than what he was good at opened the door for all that.

WSCR has had terrible management. Somehow they've done alright despite themselves. They could be so much more.

North definitely forgot who he was. But I can appreciate a dummy wanting to be seen as smart. It's much less obnoxious than an average guy trying to act like a genius.

Barry Rozner expaining the way a clavicle heals? Does anyone really need that? And I'm not sure Barry really knows anyway. I mean, this is a guy from New Trier who ended up at NIU. That's like a guy from Evanston ending up homeless.

North destroyed the station for Bernstein's rebuild

Yeah, North and Bernstein are basically two sides of the same coin. They're both great acts in the three-ring circus, but I wouldn't want either one to be the ringmaster.

North's character was far better than what Bernstein does. Bernstein is better when he tries to be informational.
