I was reserving my comments till the end of the tourney. Kobe looked damn good yesterday, its quite obvious he is the best basketball player in the world right now. But we have seen our team dominate teams in the past all the way up to the point when they finally lose a game or two in a row and are eliminated. I am cautiosly optimistic about this team because of Kobe though.

Anybody who says Kobe doesnt know how to be a teamplayer misses the point. He wanted to prove he could do it without shaq, but thats only because he is so focused on winning and being the greatest player of all time, and in my opinion knew he would always be overshadowed by shaq, even as he had surpassed him in importance level and skill level by the time he went to Miami. If Mitch hadnt dealt shaq so hurriedly, and actually got anything for him, it would be a different situation. Lamar Odom is really talented but needs the ball to be effective. Not great at moving around without the ball, and Mitch should have recognized that he wouldnt mesh well with Kobe before he even made the trade. Trading Caron Butler for Kwame is another move not cirticized enough. That was such an idiotic trade, its hard to measure the results of it completely. If they could have moved Lamar Odom/Bynum/1st round pick for Kidd this past season, and had kept Caron instead of dealing him, Kidd, Caron, Kobe is a pretty damn good trio even in the west. Mitch is just one of at least 15 incompetent GMs in the NBA. Why is it that GMs in the NBA seem so much dumber than MLB or NFL? OK sorry for the thread hijack, my bad

That isn't how I remember it. Wade was not a superstar but the potential was there. When he was head to head with Carmelo and Lebron during his rookie year, you could tell that at least 3 of that years class would be special. I think the Heat knew that Shaq alone couldn't win a title.

I doubt that the Lakers could have gotten Wade in the deal. You never get your value back for Shaq. Look at what the Wolves got for KG.

Yeah, but a lot of the KG situation was McHale's fault. As detailed he could have gotten FAR more from the Bulls last year than what he got from the Celtics. Hell, even right up to the draft they could have had the #5 pick in the deal and they fucked that up too

Yeah he was really good his rookie year. You could tell he was raw, and playing on a team that wasnt too good, but he was developing very very quickly as the season went along and even had a strong showing in the playoffs that year too. The Heat knew they wanted to keep him to pair with Shaq ala Kobe and Penny. That was the plan all along.

The Worst GMs in the NBA

Kevin McHale
Isaih Thomas
Billy King
Mitch Kupchak
Ron Babcock
Larry Bird
Danny Ainge
Billy Knight
Chris Wallace

Im sure im missing some good ones but those are right off the top of my head and its almost a third of the league. Isaih Thomas is threatening to run away with the "Worst GM in the history of Sports" title though

Nevermind Babcock was replaced by the very competent Bryan Colangelo in Toronto, forgot that. Still, he was historically bad the few years he was there

McHale is the worst. He squandered KG for a long time, and then got nothing for him besides one player who is good but not great. I actually think Isaiah Thomas has had a good offseason, but he was the worst.

I don't know if Eddy Curry for Tyrus Thomas and Noah looks so bad anymore.

If the Knicks did every best possible move from now on, they wouldnt be under the cap for another 3-4 years. The fact that he put Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford, Marbury, and Q Rich on the same team...... then drafted Nate Robinson!!! I mean Isaih wanted any player that even slightly reminded him of himself. He is the worst GM I have personally ever seen. Look at the CBA and Pacers for more evidence

his Jaric for Cassell trade was fantastic, and he got rid of Bobby Simmons at the right time, Kathan proved worth it, also James Singleton was a good find, and he has had terrible luck with Mr. Galss Shaun Livingston, who looks like a hell of a player if he could stay healthy. I think Elgin Baylor kinda redeemed himself the past 3 years or so

There is no way you can compare Baylor to Isaih. Look at my previous post for evidence as to his drastic improvement. Isaih gave max contract after max contract to bums. Jerome James, Jalen Rose, the list goes on. Its not even a comparison. He has no regard for the salary cap or team chemistry. And I dont agree with your assessment that Pax didnt think they were a lottery team after hiring Brown. Nobody could fix that mess, I and every die hard NBA fan I know(like 2 of them) knew that team wasnt going to win 40 games. It wasnt hard to figure out, despite Larrys past successes. Every move Baylor has made in the past 2-3 years has been defendable. If you think that because they traded for Randoplh, now the Knicks are a playoff team, again you would be ignoring the big chemistry factor. The Knicks have by far the softest frontcourt in the league now. They can score, but they cant defend whatsoeever. Balkman turned out to be pretty good last year but now he wont see as much time. Isaih is terrible and I guarantee they will win less then 40 games this year.

Worst GM move this offseason: Rashard Lewis 7 years for $126 million. He has one skill, scoring, and is a small forward, of which there are plenty. He is a $60 million at best player. Great Job By Orlando for outbidding themselves by $30 million.

But I did forget how good Lebron was in 07. I was thinking that was his second or third year, but it was his fourth.

Went to the finals that year I think. But yeah best player overall was probably Kobe or TD. Dirk, LBJ, KG, Wade, Stoudemire, Nash and a few others probably round out the top 10.

Lbj was better than Kobe in his 3rd year and beyond, he was the best in 07 and Chris Paul was #2 in 07 behind him.

Whoops. How does that Kidd, Caron, Kobe trio look for ya? They're not even in the league! Just another instance where you are wrong but not willing to admit it. LTG is right about your mind changing ass.

Still better than the current OKC trio.

It's debatable. Lebron wasn't first-team All-NBA that year, but that might have been politics.

You could make a case that neither were the best. Dirk was MVP, and Dwyane Wade led the league in win shares. Duncan was still raking. There were a lot of great players.
