I think he'll end up in Detroit and will bring back Marinelli to run the D.

Detroit will never have Marinelli back.

Maybe a recycled Norv Turner would be a good fit?

I couldn't imagine allowing a guy that went 0-16 to come back in any capacity.

Stafford has terrible mechanics. If he had some decent coaching he could be dangerous but he makes bad throws with very bad arm angles and it costs him big.

I am interested in seeing this as well, just do not want him in the Bears conference, especially with the Lions.

Let's see him try it with the Texans.

I think what got lost in all this is that I like Stafford.

I wouldn't have a problem with him being on the Bears. He's just undisciplined and those growing pains would hurt. But he's 25 with plenty of time.

A recent report says Lovie is the "early favorite" to land the Bucs' job. It also echoes something Dr. Ken mentioned in this thread about Tedford:

Quote:
Dungy said Smith would be able to assemble a strong coaching staff. There have been reports that Smith plans to bring former Cal coach Jeff Tedford as the offensive coordinator wherever he ends up.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10226 ... aneers-job

Does anyone know anything about Tedford? Would this be an indication that Lovie got the memo about taking offense seriously?

He was fired from Cal and the last time he was really successful the Bears were a year removed from the Super Bowl. I wouldn't hire him if that is the best he can do.

@richeisen: If Lovie Smith walks into my office and says he's bringing Tedford as his OC and Frazier as his DC, I don't let him out of my office.

A good number of unrestricted free agent Bears who play defense have probably just found a suitor for their services.

I follow a couple of Lions' insiders on twitter, and one of them keeps mentioning Ken Whisenhunt.

I would love to see them go after Cowher or Gruden. I would be fine with Whisenhunt.

Supposedly, they didn't whack all of the assistants. Some are still under contract through 2014, including Gunther Cunningham, and his yellow glasses. I don't know how they can get a top notch coach, if he has to keep old assistants.

FWIW Gruden said last week he's not interested in coaching next year. Might be trying to drive up the price, who knows.

Hated Stafford coming out. Threw a ton of picks. I think having Calvin has probably covered up a few more of his picks or terrible passes

Tampa has to be the worst job. What do they have on that roster? I would rather be in Jacksonville. Didn't they trade their #1 pick for Revis? He'll be fired in 2 years.

Tedford is soooooo Lovie.

'Who is one of the best QBs? Rodgers!'

'Who coached Rodgers, tedord. let me call that guy!"

personally, I always want a guy that has called plays in an NFL game and the flow of the system is not new to him.

You can have a great system, good coaching but you need to have sat in a box in the NFL and been an asst OC, QB coach, etc at the very least sitting next to the guy calling the plays.

It had to be a money thing. The Lions have by far the best job.

The Detroit Lions were also interested in Smith, but he preferred the Bucs job.

I don't know much about them, but VJ and Doug Martin (if his sophomore campaign was an aberration) seems like a decent start. It's not Stafford, Bush, and Megatron, but it's not Jonathon Quinn and Dez White either.

He would be a better fit with the talent on the offensive side of the ball. Lovie proved that he is too stubborn to be trusted to run a good offense. Lovie also had terrible clock management, and never knew when to challenge a play. Those are the same traits as the boob (Schwartz) on his way out.

Offensively they have a couple of pieces but they don't have great talent like Detroit on both sides of the ball. The $25 is what sealed the deal.

And the ginger haired Lovie defender chimes in with this on twitter:

"In the Lovie Smith era, #Bears led the NFL with 310 takeaways. They allowed 19.2 points per game, 4th-fewest in the NFL."

That's his guy.

Not really a Zaidman fan in general, but what's the problem with the numbers he cited? 310 takeaways and 19 points per game are seriously good numbers.
