No thanks!

Let's start with the guys who are definitely "below average', yet teams rely on them as their starter:

Christian Ponder (and all of his backups)
Mike Glennon
Sam Bradford
Geno Smith/Mark Sanchez
Ryan Tannehill (although at least he has shown some potential, I'm not sold)
EJ Manuel
Ryan Fitzpatrick/Jake Locker
Terrell Pryor
Brandon Weeden/Jason Campbell
Blaine Gabbert/Chad Henne

Hoo boy. That's a lot of really, really bad QB's, and then after that you honestly start getting into the big $$$ guys. The big money is the new standard for a reliable QB.

Perhaps Smith, Schaub, Fitzpatrick, Henne, etc. I think they are a notch below the Manning, Romo, Big Ben, Cutler class.

Are you saying Eli or Peyton Manning? Romo and Big Ben are not elite Qb's IMO.

Eli. I think there are only 3-4 elite QBs, but in this league as of now, the money second tier QBs like Cutler and Romo are paid is going to be disproportionate to their on-the-field results. That's just a dynamic we're going to have to get used to, or so it seems.

The only elite QB that comes to mind is playing for the Broncos. Beyond that everyone else is second fiddle. Brady and Brees are good, but they have their shit games too.

Carson Palmer?

How much did he make this year? That was a great trade for them.

Starting to take an eery turn. I agree with this also.
I'd take Palmer for a short term deal for the Bears moving forward, but unfortunately the Cardinals probably won't just give him to us.

You'd rather pay $15.5MM to Schaub than $18MM to Cutler?

Schaub is on a $66M/5 year deal and he is going to get cut and will get no where close to that much money going forward.

And Schaub is statistically the better QB. Just had an awful year this year.

Check the stats. You'd be surprised. And the Texans are going to end up paying him a lot less.

Here's Schaub's deal:

9/9/2012: Signed a five-year, $66.15 million contract. The deal contains $29.15 million guaranteed -- a $17.5 million signing bonus and Schaub's base salaries in years one and two. 2014: $10 million (+ $1 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2015: $12.5 million (+ $1 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2016: $14.5 million (+ $1 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2017: Free Agent

I think he could put up similar numbers to what Jay would in this offense.

He would put up better numbers. Career 64% completion. 40 less career turnovers. Three 4000 yard passing seasons.

If Schaub still has it, then he will get paid. Maybe not as much as Cutler, but it will be high, I think. The Bears just picked Cutler because he has a rapport with the coaches and his WRs.

Schaub was awful this year, then hurt. Then awful again, then hurt again, right?
And if the Texans can get out of the deal without paying big $ to Schuab, what exactly are the anti-Cutler contract people saying again?

I don't hate Schaub but I'll pay the extra $2 mil for Cutler.

Literally....I'll pay it.

He already got his guaranteed money through his first two seasons.

Right.

Is anybody really that opposed to having Cutler for a couple years at a little over the tag price?

That's an excellent deal for the Bears.

Can't believe Cutler went for that.

Why wouldn't he go for a guaranteed $54M?

The reason the Bears didn't sign an average QB is because they're scared. Jay Cutler got signed because it was easy and safe. It was also stupid. Manage proactively, not reactively.

Then the Bears control him at likely well below market values for the rest of his effective career.

That's a hometown discount.

He's currently at market value because it's basically what you'd pay to franchise him.

Years 4 and 5 would be well below market value if he's proven good enough to keep him.

If you're keeping him in 6 and 7, you must love him so he's still going to be under market.

Peyton should have picked a team that plays indoors.
