I'm assuming that they would only keep him after 3 if he has proven to be elite - at which point you'd have an elite QB at below-market salary. That's 1/2 the value I see in locking him for 3 as opposed to franchising him.

On B&B, they just said that the "restructure" part of the contract is standard across the whole league with pretty much any big deal.

Next year may be rough. Looking at that schedule I doubt the Bears will finish .500 UNLESS the defense becomes great overnight.

I know but I disagree. Some of those bad teams will be good next season. Injuries made them bad. The Packers and the Lions will be tough too. It's really hard for me to see many of those teams being bad.

That should get Emery fired. He was a tough negotiator with Forte and others but allowed his love of Cutler's talent to make him do something foolish.

This is the kind of money that gets paid when a team hasn't sniffed a good QB in decades. This is a guy who our GM has deemed worthy of a massive payday....after watching a QB with much less natural ability run the same offense in a more efficient manner. A guy, who will be 31 at the start of next season....not 24, 25, 28,...but 31 who they are counting on to suddenly blossom into a leader of men and to keep improving. This was an unnecessary expenditure given the type of offense being run. Stupid, stupid deal.

I think it is a mistake not to join the harvesting of the bumper crop of QBs in the draft this year

I'm just fine with this deal as long as Trestman is the guy who wants Cutler. If he feels he can win with Cutler as his QB, then we have no choice but to trust him.

If Trestman was not 100% sold on Cutler and was told he had to take him as his QB, then that is a real issue and likely will be going forward.
