I was kind of hoping the Cubs would get him with failure to ensue. It is much more difficult to argue the results of a plan that hasn't worked its way to the MLB level (except for trading a top of the rotation SP for a pedestrian 1B)

Now we can sit back and see if 1) Tanaka is a true #1 in MLB. 2) If he performs up to the terms of his contract. 3) If he can stay healthy.

I wanted Tanaka. I won't say I didn't. But there are plenty of people around Baseball who think he will never be an ace in MLB. If they are correct, paying him 100 million would have been crazy, much less over 150 million. The Cubs may well look back on this with a sigh of relief for having dodged a bullet. Then again, he may be great and we will lament what might have been. Time will tell.

As a Cub fan, I am not upset we didn't get Tanaka. 7 years 170MIL is ALOT to pay for a pitcher. We just got rid of Sorryono and Big "watercoolerkiller" Z. We don't need to relive that nightmare again. Good luck in NY, the Yankees are stupid with their money and this is just another bad move by the pinstripes.
