Appropriate thread title for when we melt down after losing again.

Third-string goalie in for the Wild with Harding and Backstrom out. Mikko Koivu is a huge pain in our ass; he's out too. Jared Spurgeon is also out; I don't remember if he's the tiny little Minnesota defenseman or if that's Nate Prosser. Zach Parise was out but now comes back tonight. With Koivu out, the leading scorer is Jason Pominville with a less-than-mighty 33. They've been shut out twice in their last four games, but have scored 27 and won seven in their last ten, which for these scoreless wonders is considered "really trending up." So basically I'd expect a mirror image of last night's game. Minnesota always seems to have our number. I'll take the over on Suter/Brodin logging 32 minutes each tonight. I might just listen on the radio tonight; I'm really hitting diminishing returns on watching shootout losses.

You know, though, honestly, none of this really matters, but it's just so hard to come to terms with or else everything just feels so meaningless, you know? And sports are already meaningless, but I'd like to labor under the idea that an 82-game regular season will tell you something about the teams you pay money to watch when it's time for the playoffs, and that the right teams will make the playoffs, and so on, so forth. And there's no doubt that the Hawks will be A Right Team (I have my doubts about Minnesota and Phoenix, but someone's gotta finish eighth), and yeah, perhaps this team does have some large weakness that could be causes for concern in the playoffs, but there's still so much that can happen between now and the playoffs. Maybe they make a trade. Maybe some of these guys flip a switch. Who knows.

Hawks: 32-8-12 (76), 27-13-12 adjusted (66), 67.911 expected (bad breaks piling up here, methinks)
Wild: 27-20-5 (59), 21-21-10 adjusted (52), 49.210 expected

Hawks: 3.519 scored (1st), 2.635 allowed (15th), 0.885 differential (3rd)
Wild: 2.288 scored (27th), 2.404 allowed (9th), -0.115 differential (15th)

Hawks: 38/169 22.5% on the power play (5th), 119/153 77.8% on the kill (holy shit 27th)
Wings: 29/161 18.0% on the power play (20th), 133/168 79.2% on the kill (24th)

I just looked up the NHL standings to check if Det and Hawks are in same conference and was surprised to see 32 and motherfuckin 8?

Ya....your expectations are too high

I think it's fair to be a little worried by how many times they've failed to win in regulation/overtime. And you're only now ascertaining that Detroit moved to the East? Did you leave the planet for a while?

I know very little about hockey. Is that the "old rivals wont even play" thing....i kinda remember that

I thought Chris Pronger was a goalie until two days before the finals that year

I do like it when i watch though, especially after the rule changes I followed the Hawks sparingly and the 03 playoffs maybe because I was going to bars every bars nightly. Giguerre V Brodeur

I was bitching about last game on fb a lot last night on Facebook. Probably because it was Detroit? Anyway a hockey friend reminded me it is not logical to expect to win every game in a season.

Excellent kill, shame they had to do it. Sounds like this will be another low-effort game from the Hawks, though.

Raanta gave up his second soft goal of the night. Not good.

I think it's pretty cool that they let Dany "Feet of Stone" Heatley go end to end with no one contesting it. They pretty clearly don't give a fuck tonight.

They're barely even shooting on Kuemper. This is grim.

They are probably already mentally checked out until everyone comes back from the Olympics, provided everyone there doesn't get blown up.

I feel like they've been using that excuse since October. Nothing wrong, can't win every game. I'm tired of it. Start winning games in regulation, especially against some of the not so good teams.

I would say fuck their shift changes too. I haven't seen how the goals were scored tonight but they are always getting fucked on a change. I have no idea how you mess these up unless you are lazy with your timing of it.

Did I underestimate the wild? Are they good or do we just have these lackluster performances this year?

Haven't been able to catch the game so far tonight, 2-0, ugh.

CH, you're overly-negative but you're right to be worried about this team. Their team D is just flat out bad at times and I'm getting worried more and more that this team won't get it done come playoff time. Do they expect to coast for 82 games and then turn it on for the playoffs? Good luck with that.

As you should be.

This looks a lot like the 2012 Blackhawks.

I don't think the 2012 team was ever involved in a shutout either way. I do remember, though, frequently noting that the Hawks were more often than not a low-effort team that year, routinely outworked by even the worst of teams. I never felt that in 2013. This is another low-effort team.

Four regulation/overtime wins in the last 13 games pending the conclusion of this one.

Ducks won too.

Also, this marks three regulation losses to Minnesota this year. Could be a bad match in the first round.
