The Yankees will sign Masahiro Tanaka to a 7 yr/$155M contract.

It contains an opt out after the 4th year. For the Yankees sake I hope it's a team opt out.

Now can I please have my hot stove back.

I'm sure he wouldn't. I'm saying it's fucking stupid to give this guy seven years.

That's the price of poker. Agreed that's a shit load of cash but when you start monetizing what his acquisition means, it makes sense for the Yankees.

If that's the price of poker I'm not sitting at the table.

I agree Tanaka makes more sense for a team looking to win now but this is yet another contract they will be looking to get out from under in a few years. Maybe he'll get busted for juicing and MLB will will save them a year of stupidity. Again

It will be a major ratings bump for the YES network not to mention ticket demand when he pitches. Makes sense for the Yankees.

Big risk for the Cubs and Papa Joe Ricketts.

Pending a physical, it looks like the Brewers are about to pay Garza 4 years for 52.

I kinda like it, Hawger. 4/52 isn't a bad deal for a pitcher of Garza's quality plus the Brewers don't have to give up a draft pick. Sure it's a risk but there have been much worse deals handed out this off season.

Yeah, I am absolutely shocked they did this though. This has Attanasio written all over it, just hope he can stay healthy.

Becuase 13 million sounds like more than it really is, when you look at who makes what

This is why you are nervous about the money. At that dollar figure you at least aren't overpaying for his talent.
He has gotten hurt in the past but no major surgeries I am aware of. He'll be a nice piece for the Brewers and
he knows the division pretty well.

Or now, maybe not. Apparently he may have not passed the physical, the Brewers came out and announced they are working on it, but nothing is final. He also took his physical today.

The Brewers owner just confirmed this is a done deal, just has to be approved. I am thinking they just wanted to announce this at their Brewers Fan Fest.

Now we know why this deal took so long to complete.

Garza's five year pact is worth between $50M-$67M. He will earn $12.5M annually between 2014-'17, with $2M deferred each year without interest. Garza will net $500,000 each year he reaches 30 starts and 190 innings. Garza's $13M option in the fifth season vests if all of the following are achieved: 1.) Starts 110 games during the first four years, 2.) Is not on the disabled list at the end of the 2017 season, and, 3.) Pitches at least 115 innings in 2017. The Brewers can exercise the option for $5M if Garza misses those plateaus, and the option drops to $1M if he is on the disabled list for 130 days in any 183-day period.

No shit, I was reading that earlier and thought I needed to put on my lawer hat.

I know the Brew Crew isn't one to make a huge free agent splash, but I can't believe with Prince and Braun that this is their biggest signing ever.

It is their biggest free agent contract ever, Braun signed a 5 year 100 million dollar extension when his current contract expires.

Astros designated INF Brett Wallace for assignment.

Wallace was the 13th pick in the 2008 draft. He owns a career .242/.313/.391 slash line and a 29.5% strike out rate. Wallace will turn 28 in August. Someone will give him another channce but I don't think there's a whole lot there.

that guy kills in AAA. just the sort of guy the Sox should grab, but they're already overloaded at 1B/DH.
