Hard to believe that the most popular driver is struggling to get sponsorship.

http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm#20140129h

Hendrick still looking for sponsorship for Earnhardt Jr.: Car owner Rick Hendrick says that hes not worried that Dale Earnhardt Jr.s #88 team does not have sponsorship for 13 races less than a month before the Daytona 500. Weve talked to a lot of people, Hendrick said Tuesday during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Media Tour. I want a long-term deal that fits and isnt a conflict with the other guys. Hes said that theyve had potential sponsors who have conflicted with sponsors already with Hendrick Motorsports. We will listen to anybody, and were always looking, but theres no like, golly weve got to find somebody, Hendrick said. National Guard returns and will be Earnhardts sponsor for 20 races. PepsiCos brands will serve as a primary sponsor for five races, leaving 13 races (36 point races and two non-points races).(Motor Racing Network)(1-29-2014)

Sounds like Amp/Dew is what dropped out. Wonder why?

Yea. I would think that sponsors would be lined up waiting to get on the #88. I wonder why a company who already uses Jr in TV commercials isn't interested, like Wrangler? Blue Jeans & NASCAR seem like a good fit.

I would imagine that Hendricks is probably asking for premium money, but they aren't taking into account that ESPN dropped NASCAR. TV viewership will be down, sponsors probably want to pay less.

Yea. Going from ESPN to NBC is not good for NASCAR. Something has to give at some point as most races are 25 - 40% empty.
Danica was supposed to be the answer!

The problem was that they took a niche sport and overexposed it.

Isn't Mt Dew a Pepsi product? Still have him on for 5 races according to that article. I realize that is not a lot
and maybe what you were getting at. I admit to close to total ignorance when it comes to NASCAR.
