I think it was invented for private school kids that went to a school that didn't have a gym.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

Patches: Necessary? Is it necessary to drink my own urine?
Peter: Probably not.
Patches: No, but it's sterile, and I like the taste.

I actually played this last night at a local business association event I was invited to. Played with the
girlfriends company. I hadn't played in 20+ years and things were a little different than I remember.
When I last played I am pretty sure that we used smaller red kickballs. The balls we used last night
were a dense foam which made them difficult to thow with any accuracy due to the lightweight. The
court was quite small, as we played on half a basketball court split down the middle from midcourt to
end line. I will say it was pretty damn intense and would probably be an awful lot of fun if you were
in some kind of league. Only takes 3-5 minutes per game usually. We won the first match in sudden
death and lost the next match 0-2. If you have a chance to play it is worth it but I have to say it really
showed me how out of shape I was after going all out for just a matter of minutes I was feeling it.

It's a shame schools have dropped this. More pussification of America.

Dodgeball was great.

We had another game, preposterous to think it would've been our school only ... couldn't tell you the name of it, but it was something like a hybrid of sorts of soccer, basketball, and football (not full on tackle, but short of that full contact ... I know one kid had a detached retina from it and it kinda wasn't played the rest of the year but it was back on the menu next fall) ... wasn't too bad at it either ... anyone have any recollection of something like that? A name for it?

Yes, with the foam balls it is pretty harmless. Much like natural selection, the weak kids will be out
early but not with the shame that would accompany the smashing of a rubber red ball and a distinct
"poing" sound as it bounced off their heads.

I probably got more exercise in gym class playing dodgeball than any other activity they made us do. It needs to come back.

Nailing flat-chested 7th grade girls in Catholic school outfits with a red rubber kickball made me the man that I am.

We called that SpeedBall. You had a goalie and you could throw/kick the ball in the goal, throw for a TD or shoot a basket. It was just madness trying to play defense. I think it was 1pt for a basketball score, 2pt for a TD, 3pt for a thrown goal and 4pts for a kicked goal.

Did anyone else play dodgeball in school where they put up two pins on each side of your court and you could win by either eliminating all players or knocking down both pins. You had to have people defense for the pins as well. It was so much fun. 10 push ups if you hit someone in the head. It was often worth it.

I wish that were the case. I was saving myself. Idiot.

Killing time at baseball practice, we'd play dodgeball with the girls softball team's softballs instead of the volleyball-sized red rubber ones we'd use in gym class. Once we put on batting helmets and tried it with baseballs, that didn't go well. With softballs, the key is to catch rather than dodge.

Hot damn, that's it ... Speedball ... how the hell does one forget that name ... good times.

Never heard of the pin variation on dodgeball ... yodgeball ... it's a soft 'd' ... yodge ... hope there's a couple new Anchorman Dodge spots this Sunday.

Yes! When I played in grade school (CPS) it was called BOMBARDMENT. "Dodgeball" is another manifestation of the pussification of America.
