Man I never realized it was this bad until I read this on PFT:

Quote:
But he’s made it easy on his critics with his 11-12 playoff record, which includes eight one-and-done appearances

Man, that is bum slayer territory. And of course his only Super Bowl win was against Grossman. Definitely upped my skepticism of his "greatness".

QB's who led the league in both TD's & passing yards are 0-4 in Super Bowls.

Marino never won a SB. Is there anyone who doesn't consider him elite?

My top 5 QB's:

Favre
Elway
Brady
Manning
Marino

This could change tomorrow though...

Favre was the better QB.

However, my Notre Dame hatred could be clouding my judgement!

Even those who dont like Elway would agree his pure talent, ability to run and throw is among the best ever.

If he didnt win the 2 Super Bowls, he isnt an Elite QB. Simple. But he did.

Manning just put up the second worst numbers of any SB QB. Who was the worst? oh yeah, the guy manning beat to win a SB....Rexy.

I just like the fact the Lovie weak ass deep cover 2 is now back on the table in the media as Mannings only SB wiin.

fuck yeah, Elway willed those pre-Shanahan-Terrell-Davis Bronco teams into contention.

Isn't this the worst Super Bowl performance by a QB, winner or loser:

Like I said, he's Jim Kelly with an oddly effective p.r. group.
This is a horrible thought. Players like Kelly and Warner aren't even in the same discussion. You simply have to look at season statistics. Jim Kelly has two seasons with a rating over 87. In Kelly's third best season, he was still 6th in the league. He also doesn't have a ring, and if "only" having one ring matters so much, then having no rings matters significantly more.

If we are using the standards here to judge Manning on others, the only two clearly above him are Montana and Brady. Favre, Elway, and Brees are probably on the level of Manning based on regular season statistics and unspectacular playoff results.

It also should be pointed out that Manning is 37 years old. It's not like any other elite quarterback was winning Super Bowls at 37. Elway was having one of the worst qb performances in Super Bowl history when he was 37, but his team won.

So basically, if you think there are only two elite quarterbacks in NFL history, then Manning is not elite.

Looking at ratings in the 80's is silly. The game has changed so much.

At this point I would probably put Brett Favre above Peyton Manning.

Simple question

Would you take Favre over Manning last night?

My answer is yes, not say you win with him, but you have a better chance.

Maybe. Maybe you lose by 55 instead of 35 though. I don't think Peyton has ever thrown 6 picks in a playoff game like Favre has.

Brett Favre had a lot of shitty talent around him as a player. The fact that he was able to put up the numbers he did says a lot about him. I would have felt confident with Favre at QB last night.

No QB was beating Seattle yesterday. I don't think any QB would have made it close.

Disagree. Carson Palmer beat Seattle this year. Peyton's scared play made Seattle look historic.

So you think Carson Palmer would have beat Seattle yesterday?

And Palmer threw for 1 TD and 4 INT's vs. Seattle.

It's amazing how pressure makes him look like an average QB.

Not really. Manning is a great QB. Arguably top 5 of all time and the 2nd best QB of his era but Favre did so much more with less talent and in era where defenses were still allowed to play. If Favre were playing in this era his numbers would be even more impressive than they are now and he wouldn't have taken as many shots. His best statistical season of his career came when he was 40. Give Favre the talent others had and we're talking about is he the best or 2nd best QB of all time.

Other than his first 2 years with Sterling Shape I can't think of another elite receiver Favre had and I don't recall him having GREAT defenses. We talk all the time about what Brady has done with inferior offensive talent but we overlook Favre's success with inferior talent his entire career because he was an attention whore.
