Baseball Prospectus and the Nate Silver inspired PECOTA predictions are out early this year and they have the White Sox finishing in 4th place in the AL Central.

75-87

What do you think?

79 wins, third in Central (behind Detroit and Kansas City) .... Chris Sale wins the Cy Young Award, going 17-5 with a 2.09 ERA with 7 blown bullpen saves behind him.

I am 95% confident they will win somewhere between 60 and 90 games. Can I bet that in Vegas?

Adam Dunn will receive 100% of the blame for every loss.

I think they start very slow, but end up being a pretty decent and fun team to watch by the middle of the season. I think they will win somewhere between 77 and 81 games.

Really looking forward to seeing that Cuban kid hit.

I think it is possible they reach 500. With their pitching it is never out of the question. Really depends on Dunn going big and a lot of luck on the young players.

Dunn, Konerko, and Abreu all hit sub .250.

They are starting AT LEAST two (and possibly as many as four) players with virtually no MLB experience and another with half a season. They will most likely have at least one SP with virtually no starting MLB experience. They will be employing a closer with virtually no MLB closing experience. Anyone who is telling you they can accurately predict how this team will do is blowing smoke.

Why does PECOTA find it so difficult to answer that it simply cannot predict in certain circumstances?

I think the Sox could reach .500.

I would not be shocked if they were back in the 60s in number of wins.

The variables on this team are significant in number.

i'm 98% sure that the white sox will play 162 games this year.... one way or another they won't matter in the grand scheme of things, save the occasional time you carve out of your otherwise/busy life to "invest" in watching them.

as for what they'll actually do? fuck if i know. they'll be within 10 games of .500 one way or another and at least 2-3 people will (relatively?) surprise while we get a heaping helping of ".....ohhhh yeah" from the people we expect to pull rob deer type #s out of their arse.

and in the end, all that really matters is ed farmer wishing you and yours a happy seder, right?

Who is overrating Danks entering this season? He's coming off a bad season, and has had recent arm surgury in the midst of a long-term deal.

I don't know who is overrating that.

The Sox have the potential to be good if they stay 100% healthy and Abreu is an instant star.

More than likely though, they'll be about 74-88.

I just want healthy, productive seasons from Abreu, Garcia, Sale, Quintana, Erik Johnson, Eaton, and Davidson.

I believe they will win 77 games and finish with a better record than the Cubs.

Quintana most likely. Unless Danks has an awesome spring which will not happen.

Do you have anymore then two people who are overrating Danks yet? Also, even if he is overrated one person doesn't make an entire staff the same. So who else is overrated on the staff?

My projection:

3rd place, a few more wins then 75, fun team to watch but a few old faces continue to frustrate. Major difference between this year and last is that we are clearly moving forward. Hopefully the finish leaves us excited for next year. In contention in a year or two.

I have been extremely impressed by Hahn and I have always thought highly of him.
