His parents told him he needed to go where he got a scholarship?

Hold on here for a second...Sir got into Yale but went to De Paul?

I, of course, don't believe it. I imagine there is significant grant money to be found for a guy like Sir.

That sounds like the backwards thinking of some of my less removed from the old country relatives. That's game changing stuff and as an African American that is, write your own ticket to whatever you want to be upon graduation stuff.

This is just the game they play every year or so. Terry talks about where he could have gone but decided on NIU and Sir follows it up with his tales. I believe it was Dartmouth the last time I heard it.

Did he "get accepted to Yale" the same way he was "asked to try out for the Phillies"?

Really?

I don't think we've ever heard this one. Larry is getting tired of repeating old lies. So he's gotta come up with new ones.

Translation: Somebody from Yale came to his high school to talk to all the kids. Now that Larry is 20 years removed from high school, he's decided to exaggerate the story to "Yale heard of me and made a personal visit to get me."

Is that pretty much the way he presented it? He's pathetic.

No, he didn't present it that way at all.

From what I recall, he mentioned that he applied to Yale, his parents said, "sure, go ahead", he got an acceptance letter and his parents told him that was great but you're not going there, go to a school where you got a scholarship.

I'm just giving him shit with the post. It wasn't that bad. He talked about really wanting to go to Michigan but I kind of zoned out and don't remember why he didn't go.

It's still a lie that he got accepted, though.

Yale rejects more people than they accept.

I have no problem believing he got accepted to Yale.

I have never felt that Laurence was unintelligent.

Well, did he get a scholarship to DePaul?

And if he got into Yale, then you'd think he'd be able to at least go to Northwestern.

Some people apply to places because they want to even though they know they can't afford it.

I applied to Notre Dame but I knew I'd never go there. I just wanted to see if I could get in.

I guess my point is, if you got accepted to Yale, it would mean that you can certainly could get a full ride academic scholarship to many schools better than effin' DePaul. That's what I'm saying. That why it has to be a lie.

Maybe he got a full-ride to DePaul.

I think you're overestimating the value of a Yale acceptance. I don't think it certainly means full-ride scholarships all over the globe.

I understand that. I did the same with Marquette. But getting into Yale is quite a thing. He probably should have gone there.

You make Yale work. Opens connections DePaul would never sniff. As un-PC as this sounds, the business world would've been clamoring for a guy like LoHo if he went.

Sure, it would be great to go to Yale. But, IIRC, back in his day it was still like $40k/year to go there while DePaul was probably more like $10-12k and less if he got scholarships.

Some people just aren't in a financial position to commit that kind of cash, even with some grants/loans/etc.

The Expos tried him out then paid for his college education to do something else.

I feel like Bernstein would challenge Laurence on this and ask him to produce the letter or start badgering him about what his grades and test scores were.

No, I feel like he calls out people on the station as long as their beneath him in the pecking order

Meaning, he wont go at Terry, Mulligan, Hanley, or Mac. Everyone else (drinky, rongey, laurence) are fair game

"Only punch down" is kind of Dan's guiding principle in life, when you think about it.
