Doug in Evergreen Park wants to know if there's going to be another tailgate party at the Cell.
Tough to say... and I'm doing my best to get out of the prediction business. I'd like to have one this summer, but can't say for sure that by the time the weather is more trustworthy (Doug suggests mid-August), I'll still be on the air at the Score or anywhere else. If there is one, I'll make sure there's ample notice.
Darkside (and I'm not not sure if he's serious but I'll answer anyway) wonders "porterhouse... fillet or ribeye?"
No love for the NY strip? Depends on the restaurant, Dark. The strip at Harry Caray's always is terrific. There's a steakhouse five minutes from my house (Venice Steakhouse on 30 in Dyer) that consistently delivers a five-star ribeye. I'm not much of a fillet guy. Chick steak. If I have a fillet....it's smothered in blue cheese. When I take the boys to Canada, I usually take some porterhouses because they offer both the tenderness of a fillet and the flavor of a strip. I also love end cuts of prime rib.... one of my favorite things to grill. God, I miss the Allen Brothers endorsement....my favorite of all time....more than any dealer car or other $$$ or product. Great stuff, but hideously pricey.
Q. Bovifs asks, besides weed, what's the best gift I ever received from a listener.
I always enjoyed getting bud from my listeners...but ONLY if we got to burn it together. We had us some times, didn't we DEP, BF, RPB, SH84, etc.? I'd have to say there are a couple gifts that stand out. After ESPN whacked me, they took down the entire photo album of MJH stuff from the website...like I never existed. I commented on that here and Eaglo Jeff showed up at my house one day with a framed photo of Billy Williams and me, taken in Mesa, as we were just standing around the batting cage, shooting the shit. I don't keep a lot of photos with me and celebs and I rarely have the ones I have "on display" in the mancave...but that photo means a lot to me. We weren't posing....he wasn't on the show....I was just talking about golf, life, etc., with my childhood hero and it's a great shot. Thank you, Eaglo.
Recently, I was given a large Blackhawks Indian head, carved out of wood and hand painted meticulously and beautifully, with tremendous attention to detail. It wasn't bought in a store...it was a gesture from a man who made it with his hands. It was a gift from a new friend, a brother in the program... a 34-year-old crystal meth addict who lives up in Lake County. He's the smartest, funniest blue collar dude I've ever met and I admire him enormously. He just celebrated his first year of sobriety and I'm hoping to be friends with him for life. He's got a new baby daughter and is a wonderful guy. He engraved well wishes on the back, dating it 12-6-13. The first Hawks game my dad took me to was on 12-6. Thanks, Keith S.
good dolphin asks "Dan, how are you feeling? It seems there has been a little more fire in the belly lately. Glad to hear it."
That's a very kind question, gd. A few very simple words that seem genuine and compassionate. I feel good. I have a lot for which I am grateful... great family.... great friends and a job I usually enjoy. Sobriety agrees with me. It keeps me grounded. Don't get me wrong, I miss the smell, taste and feeling of burning sweet, sticky ganja and a fine bourbon rocks always sounds good....but I'm in a better place without it. More on the "fire in the belly" in the work thread. I'm glad somebody asked that, gd. I will ask it of others and MEAN it when I ask it. Thank you.
Lastly...sinicalypse asks "How much mac would a macchuck mac if a macchuck could outmack spmack?"
Hey sinicalypse.... How are you feeling? Very funny. I've laughed at your query several times. Two more threads to go.... enjoying a movie with Patrick next so I'm going to put the Ask Mac stuff...on hoooooold.
