Jerry Angelo on Cutler: "Has all the physical tools, but inconsistent in the clutch. Mostly due to a lack of poise."

Jerry Angelo on Cutler: "...He's not comfortable reading defenses and consequently locks onto a favorite or pre-determined target."

Jerry Angelo on Cutler: "...The less he's asked to see, the better he is. A better half field general than a full field one."

pretty easy for him to say these things now.

Wasn't he paid to come to that conclusion before he made the trade for him?

He's just admitting that he was wrong.

Wouldn't it be a good idea for him to actually say that then?

2 points seem valid but the half field thing is weird. I thought he shits the bed more on a short field and has had some nice long scoring drives.

He couldn't though. He would have had to trade him and then talk about how mediocre of a QB he was.

I think you are cutting the field in half the wrong way. He is saying he can't see the field sideline to sideline.

Suddenly I feel much better about Cutler!

I think Cutler performed pretty well the last two seasons. Any kind of defense would have put the team in the playoffs. I would have loved to see the Bears perform then.

While I will agree with many of Jerrys thoughts on Jay.

Jay also got much better at improving in the areas he needed to do so, still has room to improve, but made more strides in 1 year then the previous 4 or how ever many years he has been here.

Angelo should really keep his mouth shut, because since Lance Briggs and peanut, he hasnt had a draft pick worth the money they paid for them.

No he didn't. He was the same player.

He isn't talking about a short field, he means width...cutler can't go through his reads quickly enough, so he scans half the field ...i agree with angelo. he should have just said " jay is not as good as i thought and i overpaid."

While some of these criticisms are valid, Angelo simply shouldn't be taken seriously as a scout of offensive players. His best work on that side of the ball has been done through free agents and trades. I cannot recall a single offensive player he drafted that became a dependable and consistently solid player, with perhaps the exception of Knox.

Plus criticizing Cutler is easy now with six or whatever years of work, but at the time it was absolutely the right move. Who in their right mind would turn down a chance to trade for a 25 year old QB seemingly on the path to stardom? That was Cutler at the time - opinions to the contrary are a product of hindsight bias.

Well, it's a good thing reading defenses is not a big part of Quarterbacking in the NFL

Veganfan- there were many of us who were not thrilled with the cutler trade...Angelo overpaid and that was the feeling from day 1, no hindsight there. I remember distinctly having to turn off Bernstein that day because his over the top approval of the trade. If macneil was on the air he would have been the voice of reason.

So going back to 2009, you were okay with Orton/Grossman? Just curious as to why you didn't like the trade at the time given the Bears were going nowhere with that putrid offense.

No..always hated Grossman , orton could have won that superbowl. I wanted the bears to draft a qb every year until they get a star. Even the cutler "fans" thought Angelo overpaid ...but their defense was " what does it matter if the bears give up sll those picks, since ANGelo was doing the drafting .

I loved Grossman but I was happy with the trade. I thought it was the right move even though we overpaid.

I forgot about forte. I'm with nas on this one, 312p. Drafting a qb every year is too costly. You get your stud qb now, combine him with a good defense, and contend for the next five or so years. Obviously didn't work out that way because Angelo and Lovie couldn't do what Emery did in two years (to the offense) but I believe it was the right move.

Yes, even if you had cut Orton that same day.

Hindsight only increases that being the correct answer. Is there anything that has happened during the Cutler era that you think only happens with Cutler?

Yes, Rick. The Bears do not make the NFC Champ game with Orton under center.

I couldn't care less about what Jerry Angelo has to say about the Bears offensive players now. He can talk the talk now, but when he was GM he absolutely could not walk the walk when it came to finding players for the offensive side of the ball.

So Angelo gets a shoutout for basically saying "I SUCKED AT MY JOB" ???

But he's is trying to impress people with statements on players?

His reign will be characterized like Jim Hendrys. An amazing absence of talent he selected, even though at the end I dont think he selected much of it, I think it was 'OK, do we all agree on ____"

GM's dont hit on every player, that much we all know, but when the number of players certain GM's pick dont even stick in the league, anywhere, thats a huge reflection on the GM....Pool Jumpers unite!

I believe you have used this line on me before "How can you be so certain? Don't sound like Scorehead".

I don't think we needed Cutler to beat the 7-9 Seahawks playing on the road. He did have a really good game though.

Inconsistent in the clutch? Doesn't he have one of the best 4th quarter stats of any QB?

Yes. His next goal should be to have good QB ratings in other 3/4 of the game.

4th quarter stats can be misleading. They were down 40-16 to the Lions this year and Cutty threw two meaningless TD passes in the 4th

He hasnt been good in must win games.

2014 4th quarters

1 Matt Flynn GB 122.2
2 Aaron Rodgers GB 114.0
3 Josh McCown Chi 113.1
4 Peyton Manning Den 112.7
5 Jake Locker Ten 105.9
6 Tony Romo Dal 105.6
7 Jay Cutler Chi 102.7
8 Philip Rivers SD 96.7
9 Sam Bradford StL 96.4
10 Andy Dalton Cin 95.0
