Hottest Geek Guys of Winter 2014
#3
The winter blues are sticking around longer than usual, so here are "Geek To Me's" Hottest Geek Guys of 2014 to break the hold of the polar vortex! Among this year's hottest geek guys we have the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi; a rock star; two radio personalities; a geek from MTV; the official "geekologist" from a major LGBT site; and an NFL player who has started his own comic book company. (Elliott Serrano, for Redeye)

Connor McKnight is a host, anchor and reporter for 670 The Score AM. He also co-hosts the Score's venerable (not vulnerable) Sunday morning baseball show, Hit and Run. Connor's been geeking out about baseball since he was little but also found time to build an X-Wing, TIE Fighter and Millennium Falcon out of LEGOs. You know, before they started making all those custom pieces.

In his opinion, sports and general nerdery work together like Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Sure, some of the hardcores in sport will tell you their sacred realm has no room for the geek. Listen to a few of them break down the 6th and 7th round of the NFL draft as though their very lives depended on it, however, and pretty soon it's indistinguishable from a conversation dissecting the finer points of David Lynch's 1984 epic and criminally under-appreciated adaptation of Dune (Long live the fighters!)

Before lucking out with The Score, Connor worked as a college football reporter (his Hunter S. Thompson phase), a high school English teacher (think Dead Poets Society), a bouncer (Swayze in Roadhouse) and a peon in minor league baseball (Jonah Hill in Moneyball).

He also suffers delusions of grandeur.

As soon as baseball season starts you can hear him on The Score, Sundays from 9am-1pm.

It should be very interesting.

Did Laurence win the past?

Laurence Holmes is a sports radio and TV personality on The Score 670 AM and NBC 5 Chicago. He is also the Green Lantern for space sector 2814. He once devoted time on his radio show to talk about pro-wrestling until his on-air partner, the mysterious "Z", was lost in the Bermuda Triangle. (Or maybe he moved to Minnesota. Same difference.) This would result in Laurence's rise to become one of the top talents in Chicago media, as evidenced by the number of women who will show up on his radio show, or at his favorite comic shop. Even though he is popular with the ladies, don't bother asking him for a hook-up. And don't even think about getting Cheryl Scott's phone number from him. Bribing him by putting him in a "hot geek guys" feature probably won't work either. Listen to Laurence on The Score 670 AM and follow him on Twitter (@LaurenceWHolmes). — Elliott Serrano, Feb. 23, 2013

I thought terms like "geek" and "nerd" were reserved for people who liked things that are obscure and/or overly technical, not things that are mainstream. Baseball, Star Wars, and Lego are all about as mainstream as you can get. He might as well have said that he also likes apple pie and Chevrolet.

He'll either start lying about encountners with women or tales of acceptance into respected graduate schools or law programs.

Connor McKnight: another Score drone who sounds and acts like every other drone at the station.

They need to get a fat guy with an attitude or a skinny guy with substance-abuse issues or something.

Didn't he used to be a clean-cut looking professional?

Do they require everyone over there to be a slob?

His glasses say "I'm smart", but his shirt says "I'm too cool to care."

Seriously... he certainly is "uncool", but not in the hip, ironic way he thinks he is. True nerds are busy studying aerodynamics and building model trains.

It's almost a triple negative. He's a nerd who thinks he's a cool guy who's acting like a nerd, but he's really just a douche. The whole thing is very depressing, really.

That drawing won first place at my 5th grade art fair. So, show's what you know.
