Hey era_boy,you left this out:

1970 season

The NBA expands to 17 teams as the Portland Trail Blazers, the Buffalo Braves, and the Cleveland Cavaliers begin play. For the first time, the league is divided into Conferences (East and West), each with two divisions.

So the league was watered down for Robertson.
