I have a buddy that does most of my repairs. He's very good. (PM me if anyone ever wants to use him)

But for passing emissions, often times you need official documentation, so Im forced to take it to a shop

Quoted 700, 800, and 650 (the honest guy) for a new Catalytic Converter with Manifold

My honest guy noticed that only the rear pipe needed to be replaced. So he did that for 300 less than the 650 and even took it to the Emissions place and got it passed for me.

Well done, sir. George Browning and Sons in Oak Forest (159th and LeClaire) if anyone wants to use them.

Motor oil is the life blood of a car. Okay, ya put in a low grade oil you can damage vital engine parts, okay? See this gasket? I have no confidence in that gasket!

Did you check his papers to be sure he is in the country legally?

There's a Brach's in Winfield. It's family owned (I believe 3 generations work there). The old man reminds me of Pop from Seinfeld. My car got fucked up twice when they "worked" on it. I think pop was fiddling with the engine too much.

I use Art at Northlake Auto for the work vans and my personal car. Their prices are a little bit high, but they aren't going to screw you and say you need new shocks and a johnson rod when its really only a $150 fix. They also warranty a lot of their parts which has come in handy more than once for both my car and one of the vans.

My mechanic did the same thing...he drove my car to the place himself to get it passed. What can these guys can do at the facility? Bribe?

Reliable Auto Repair in Batavia . Paul is a pretty straight shooter , fixes what needs to be fixed, tells you what can wait if you're short funds.

The Car Doctor, Jr. in Schaumburg. Honest guy, will tell you if something is a safety issue and needs to be repaired ASAP or if it can wait, etc.

No, I dont think so. That would be way too risky for them.

In my case, my car was actually fixed and working properly. Its a great service to offer. I despise sitting in that little glass box

My guy's a biker, who hires a lot of bikers with, let's say, colorful backstories. I've known him for over 10 years. We're 67-82% certain he's killed a guy, like in a bar fight or something, not execution-style. Also, and this is important, he is either Serbian or Croatian. I forget which, but I know he really hates the other one, so don't bring that up.

Edit: He'll also take the car in for emissions for you.

TONY: Well, the shift knob is loose. You know about that?

JERRY: No, I hadn't noticed.

TONY: Have you been picking at it?

JERRY: Have I been picking at it? No. You know. It's just wear and tear.

TONY: Wear and tear. I see.

JERRY: The engine is really the only thing that needs checking.

TONY: You been rotating the tires?

JERRY: Try to.

TONY: You don't try to. You do it! Fifty-one percent of all turns are right turns. You know that?

I bring my vehicles to my buddy's house. His garage has just about everything that one could possibly need, to work on cars and Harleys.

I buy him beer and cigarettes, and smoke him up, and we get to fixing what needs fixing.
