This thread inspired me to go to the local diner this morning for an omelette and some homemade wheat bread. It was delicious.

I consider IHOP a cut above Denny's. The pancakes are pretty damn good.

disagree.

I used to do Denny's and IHOP when I just consumed food without looking at it.

Can't do it anymore. It's Halloween candy for breakfast.

i've always been an egg, bacon, toast, omelette, etc. kind of breakfast guy
i can do some regular pancakes as a side

but i can't understand these crepes, french toasts, pancakes, etc. that are more decadent than most desserts. i don't understand the concept of eating dessert for breakfast

I don't either. It blows my mind. What parents take their kids there?

Agree with Bagels. Same reason I'm not a big fan of donuts.

yeah, i can go along with that. of course you can be a pig and eat like 6 donuts yourself, but chances are you'll just have 1 or 2
it's a pastry, not intended to be an entire meal
but hell, even 6 donuts probably have less fat & calories than one of those filled crepe things at IHOP with whipped cream and powdered sugar and all that shit

when they were still in Geneva, I nearly polished off a box of 12. Driving back to DeKalb, I thought I was getting labor pains.

Worth it for the 10 minutes. Sooo not after. I set my limit at 6 after that.

Spoken like a true member of The Organization! I'm not a big pancake guy, but I can see fruit or something as a pancake topping.

"Oh I want light, flaky pastry with whip cream, and cherries for breakfast!" Then order a damn milkshake, you communist!

I like either my pancakes or waffle, covered in butter and syrup. The hell with the rest of that stuff.

A man's man. A manly breakfast should not include whip cream* or fancy drizzles over your food. It should be syrup, grease, and hot sauce.

*Except on an Irish Coffee

What if the wife is wearing the whipped creme one morning?

Yeah, I'm a savory breakfast guy, too. Pancakes are a side.

Sorry, no. Pancakes are easy.

The test if a breakfast place is the hash browns and sausage. Ihop fails on both fronts

Gun to my head between them and Denny's and I'll take IHop but any local greasy spoon is better

Pancakes and donuts are the fucking worst. Well, donuts are. Pancakes are a close second. Waffles are third worst.

RPB and others here got it right. Eggs, sausage, hash browns, bacon, and coffee. That's all you need.

That should just be his sig.

RPB, you should try the pancakes at Golden Bear at 123rd & Cicero. Best I've ever had.

We both agree the pig is the most delicious animal ever put on Earth. Why the hell would a man such as yourself waste valuable breakfast time on sweets designed for 6 year olds?

As we discussed earlier in the thread, if I am at a local diner for breakfast, the waffles or pancakes are a side. You can get a meatlovers skillet chock full of pig, hashbrowns, eggs, and cheese with 2 pancakes on the side.

If we are making breakfast at home, waffles or pancakes are a good option.

I still disagree, but I guess it's just different tastes. I hate maple syrup too. Anything sweet doesn't belong in a breakfast meal.
