He says he is working on it. That would make him an even better player and passer. I believe confidence more than form is the issue.

I disagree. He just doesn't have 'it' when it comes to shooting/scoring, and I'm fine with that - I like and appreciate him as is. Not really a talent thing or something you can work on. If he could score at even a modest pace, something like 15-17 ppg, he'd probably be a max contract player given everything else.

Exceptionally better shot than Noah

Really?

Longley was a career 46% shooter and was never at 50% or above for a season.

Noah is a career 50% shooter and was over 50% for four seasons.

Still amazed this stat was used to show me Noah is a good shooter? he doesnt even lift the ball above his chest when he shoots from more than 5 feet out. The only reason he even attempts that shot is because he is left 100% wide open and they want him to shoot it. If he got better at it, it would help the team as big men couldnt drop down on him, but they would also guard him,

Image

Who cares? All that means is that Noah is getting better looks than Longley did. Would you rather have a great shooter who shoots 42% from the field or a bad shooter who shoots 55% from the field? And you're underestimating Noah's shot. It's ugly, yes, but it's become decently effective for a center. Longley's shot was not WAY better than Noah's. it was prettier and more natural. Noah gets the job done, though.

"noah gets better looks" ?????

OK, you know your shit

because so many times this is said "Get the ball to joe at the elbow, and let him shoot"

Would be great if he could make that a real shot in his offense.

Okay, Bigfan... if Longley shot 46% for his career and Noah shoots 50%, and you say that Longley is clearly a better shooter, where is the discrepancy? Please be specific. Thanks.

If Noah shoots twice per game from outside the lane, while being unguarded, I will hope he makes about 40% or he should never ever shoot the ball, even if unguarded, but the fact he only shot 30 such shots over the past month should tell you, its not a shot he would ever be taking if not just given to him.

His exact % of making that shot 42.4% does that mean he is a 42% shooter? of course not.

he has a really bad shot. Its fundamentally terrible and isnt a shot he can get off if guarded. This fact alone makes it a terrible shot.

If Noah and Longley both shoot 20 from the top of the key, with an NBA player guarding them....

Estimates of how many shots they each make?????

I'm not saying Longley doesn't have a better shot! (though I don't think it's way better than Noah's). I'm saying that if we agree Longley has a better shot, but Noah shoots a higher percentage, it means Noah is getting better shots, whether it's dunks, put backs, layups, baby hooks, whatever.

Kyle Korver has a better shot than Lebron James. It doesn't matter if you're not athletic or nimble enough to get good looks.

Understand yet?

Luc Longley averaged 6.4 shots per game in his career.

Joakim Noah averages 7.3 shots per game.

There goes your Rodman theory. Next question.

if I run with your theory that the shooting % is used as proof of the player being a good shooter. Rodman is a GREAT shooter.

And the fact that Noah gets 1 more shot a game more than Longley did means nothing.

yet you never answered my very specific question of how many shots you think each player makes of the 20?

I'm going to state this in my Bernstein voice: I'm not saying Noah is a good shooter. He's a more efficient scorer than Longley. His field goal percentage and shot attempts prove that.

Noah will be good. It will take a few years but he'll probably end up carrying the team once the main star gets hurt and winning fan's hearts. Eventually he'll become a great passer and they will run the offense thru him.

He'll also have triple doubles occassionally against bad teams

I'm surprised at this argument. I just feel Noah is a much all-around better athlete & basketball player then Longley could ever hope to be. If shots per game are close and one guy is shooting 4% better, then logic is that guy is the better shot. I stressed "high % shots=victory" when I coached. If Noah is smart enough to get closer to the basket than Longley was, good for him.

I would say the opposite, if Noah shoots 50% as many of you keep telling me, let him step back to 18 feet and start shooting 20 times a game from there. Then he should drop 30 a night. According to many of you he should be able to do this.

Rodman not the BEAST some claim he was when with the Bulls. he just went for Rebounds. No attempt to score, which works well, if you have Jordan and Pippen.

I really Noah has improved. But how much of his improvement is because of Thibodeau? When he played for Skiles and Vinny he really wasn't much of a player. Even his first year with Thibodeau he was on the bench in the 4th quarter for a lot of those games. I think that maybe his coach has a lot more to do with his improvement than people realize.
