Revis for Peppers? There are probably situations like that, that in theory could work out. Lots of numbers to crunch, but possible. Still bet he gets cut.

Nah. Revis wants too much money & it doesn't look like the Bears are willing to throw stupid money around...well, except for the Cutler deal. I still hate that Jay got paid despite the fact that he really hasn't accomplished anything in his NFL career. Like the Peppers deal, in a few years the Bears will be looking to get out of the Cutler deal.

Wrong.

We've been back and forth on this before, and I don't know why you fail to see the connection between the bears improved defensive performance once peppers signed, and their mediocre play prior to his signing when they had no threat of a pass rush.

Plus saying you knew the bears would be looking to get out from under the contract isn't exactly helpful insight either, especially since cap hits are more or less fixed and not linked to performance. This means all teams are eventually at risk of carrying bad contracts since players age and ultimately get worse over the life of the contract. In six or so years even Kevin Durant will have a "bad contract," and so will someone like Jamal Charles. It's inevitable and Peppers is not the first star to decline in production despite being paid big money.

@mikecwright: Schefter reports Raiders DE Lamarr Houston reached agreement on a five-year, $35M deal with the Chicago Bears, per league sources.

I'd lean more to the "no way in hell I'm going back to Oakland" angle than "Oakland didn't want him".

This dialogue is a play of fiction.

I don't remember anyone saying they NEEDED Bennett except his brother.

Houston was obviously Plan B.

He had 2 sacks from Week 7 on last year. They got a younger version of bad Peppers.

The bottom line is that the Bears, at some point, are going to have to start drafting better. You can't continue to buy your way out of bad drafts.

Bennett was nearly every Bear's fans wet dream. Now after getting dumped they pretend they never liked him and prefer modern day Philip Daniels.

Well, he makes 50% of Peppers, so not so bad.

He was a run stopping DE for OAK that seemed to disappear at times. I'd be curious what the guaranteed money is.

berns cited some very impressive run stopping stats. just guessing, as bad as OAK was, he must not have had much help.

Bennett was never the "favorite" of Bears fans. People where concerned his value was inflated because of the defense he played on. I believe he also had under 10 sacks and played only 60% of the plays.

Bears fans just want the defense to get better because they know with a decent defense, they will be in the playoffs.

That's just not true and Bennett is every bit Daniels/Ogunleye. He would have been a decent addition but not one you lust after or break the bank over, which the Bears didn't.

Can you really expect a Packer fan to look at a Bears move objectively, and vice versa?

Sure, this board. Take a look at other Bears dedicated ones.

Look, Packers have been just as stupid. They gave Sam Shields 10 million. They actually have an offer for Raji. And really this is all small potatoes as the marriage to Cutler indicated Emery wants the Bears to never win a Super Bowl.

They are about to sign safety Ryan Mundy. That wouldn't have been the guy I would have targeted. I suppose its an upgrade over the zilch they got from that position last year
