Does anyone remember shortly after Howard was traded to the Lakers how Bernstein kept going on and on about the best center being traded always resulted in a championship? He was comparing Howard to Wilt, Kareem, Shaq and Moses. Amazing how much his opinion has changed.

I had always struggled to describe Howard's game. Steve Kerr put it best tonight: mechanical. His physical tools are overrated. He is strong and jumps high, but he's slow and mechanical.

You're right about his tools being overrated. His height is subpar compared to previous dominant centers. Without shoes Howard is nothing but 6'9" while Shaq, Wilt and Kareem were all legit 7 footers barefoot. What Howard has going for him is an absurd wingspan.

The bigger issue is that Howard is not good enough to be the best player on a championship team. He's a better scorer than Noah and he gets a lot of easy points off rebounds. But Noah got in his head tonight and forced him into committing a lot of turnovers.

Doesn't my description of him imply that he's not good enough to be the best player on a championship team?

That's why the Rockets are screwed because neither Howard nor Harden is good enough to be the best player on a championship team.

Dunleavy got knocked out and on his return he took a second charge (somewhat inadvertently) and he scored 18 points in the 3rd quarter. Stacey King said it best, "He's playing like Rocky Balboa."

Still infinitely better than the crap ESPN is putting out. I have had enough of Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose to last a lifetime. You can also ship Mike Breen off to the island of misfit broadcasters.

Simmons and Rose are pretty bad. Breen is Mr. Vanilla. My favorite guy on the ESPN crew is Hubie Brown.

I am not admitting you said that until I get props for saying last year Taj is going to be the man.

 I said the same thing in that thread. I believe I may have said it first. Either way great minds think alike.

I've always liked Hubie Brown. I also like how he pronounces league "lig".

Yes, that's why I added the statement. Howard did get his one crack at the Finals with the Magic, but the Lakers were too good for them.

What is the Bulls record right now if you have Howard this year instead of Noah? It is almost a guarantee he would of shut down mentally, if not physically, after Rose was lost and Deng was traded.
Completely agree.

Berns would probably praise him for committing to tanking and not risking himself when there's no chance for a ring.

The team that has really lucked out is the Lakers. They really wanted Howard to stay. Not only did the Lakers not have to pay him, but with the Kobe Bryant injury they were able to tank this season big time.

100% true. and their record would be something to the tune of 15 wins so far.

Howard has more talent than Noah, but Noah is a greater competitor and can pass the ball.

natural talent. noah has worked on his game way harder. and his effort makes him far more effective in comparison.

Howard is a very flawed player. As you said he is a mediocre passer, this is something he's never really improved upon. His lack of post moves are obvious as is his lack of shooting ability. He's a greater scorer than Noah simply because of his more elite athleticism. Howard is also a diminished defender compared to what he once was. At this point it's a very real debate between him and Noah. They're very comparable.

While I agree to a point, athleticism is hard to define. If we take into account quickness, coordination, and hands, I don’t think Howard's athleticism is that much better. He is clearly stronger and jumps higher. That's about it.

I would agree with that. Michael Jordan is a great example of that. Certainly he was a top player coming into the NBA, but he was not hyped up like LeBron James dunking on inferior high school talent. Jordan developed his game and his God-given talent met with an insatiable desire to win. Not everyone who is a great player has such a desire to win at all costs. Noah can get better, but Howard will never have Noah's desire.

Two cents: I think Powerhouse would love Harden if he were the Bulls' starting 2.

I think Harden is. But it would take him committing to defense, and he's shown an unwillingness to do that. Howard definitely won't. I remember thinking he could after that incredible '09 run but I was wrong and it's been nothing but downhill since then for him.

Harden would need playoff officials as bad as those in the 2006 NBA Finals to be the best player on a championship team IMO. Then again, his theatrics might even be superior to Wade's at this point, so the refs wouldn't have to be quite that incompetent.

They lost Deng, but Dunleavy is a pretty good scoring threat and plays hard.

Dunleavy is somewhat inconsistent. He has quite a few off nights. What he does give the Bulls is someone who can shoot a higher percentage from three and he can make an open shot, which a lot of their guys can't do consistently. Dunleavy's willingness to take charge and to improve his defense have allowed Thibodeau to put him on the floor.

In a lot of recent games Dunleavy is getting a lot of what would have been Deng's minutes with Tony Snell or Butler playing that 3 position when he's on the bench. Honestly, I'd like to see a little more Jimmer and less Tony Snell.
