I thought I knew, but I guess I don't.

If I go to a brewery/pub looking to get a growler filled, does it have to be the growler I bought from that place? I thought the answer was "yes" - because Nevin's Brewing Co. said so - but I was at Half Acre last week, and the people behind me had two growlers to get filled, and neither were from Half Acre originally.

Is there a standard answer to this at most places, or is every place different?

Well at Three Floyds you can't get refills if you use their growlers. You have to buy a new one each time. Sorta defeats the purpose of having a growler.

What? That makes no sense. Although that's pretty much normal for them.

If you go to Two Brothers with a different growler, they will fill it, after they put a big sticker over the other company's logo. Weaksauce.

That sounds ok to me. Saves me the extra $6 or whatever it costs.
Funny - the people behind me at Half Acre had Two Bros growlers.

Every place is different. They are all about the *craft* and some people think it is against *craft* to have bottles beyond their control.

I don't get it. If I'm in your establishment, buying your beer, why do you care about a competitor's logo on my to-go vessel?

The small breweries seem to try to project an image that they stick together. This practice speaks otherwise.

Yup,now the brewpub here has gone totally into the awesome growlers as they have Aluminum ones. So from being brewed till being drank it never touches a measurable amount of sunlight.

One day some of these places are going to pull a Jimmy Mattingly and brew a beer called "Alone In My Principles."

I've found that every place is different...and also inconsistent.

In some states, places aren't allowed to fill growlers that aren't their own, so I guess we're lucky in Illinois.

I guess $40 for a growler of Dreadnaught was too high a price point.

Ran by Binny's over lunch to pick up the new Enjoy By. They had tons of FFF bombers. First time in a while that I've seen that many at Binny's. Dreadnaught, Arctic Panzer, Live a Rich Life, and a new one (to me at least).
