Yeah, Beck's discography is a little daunting for someone who's mentally wired to be a completist but unsure of the quality therein. It's the same thing that's kept me from getting into Ryan Adams, 'cept I know he sucks.

Foster the People. I don't really get what they're going for. They're like the Third Eye Blind of that safe-as-milk 2000s "electronically tinged" rock. Good singles here and there, but who could devote himself to an entire Foster the People album?

I get to listen to music at work all day long so I try a little of everything. I know I don't dare touch your
level of musical consciousness. I didn't find the Foster The People to be all that great. They only had
one or two singles that were decent and neither was as good as the first album as far as catchiness is
concerned. The Vampire Weekend is a running board meme which I am sure you are aware of,
but I honestly don't find them as objectionable as most. They are better than most of the crap out
there today.

for the record...I really do enjoy their first album quite a bit. It's great
Contra was still pretty good but a slight step down
Modern Vampires continues that slide down for me

So I do like them, but i mean they'd probably be my 256th favorite band or something like that, I like a lot of things. I don't tend to listen to them all that often but when I do I enjoy it

Also, that War On Drugs album....really digging that

I know someone else here posted about it- shirtless? Curious?

it's kind of driving me crazy as it reminds me of another band, especially the vocals, but i can't place it...like something from early/mid 80's new wave

It was Curious, and I'd agree. Very enjoyable band I had never heard of before. Might give it another
spin this afternoon.

Yeah, the War on Drugs is where it's at. It's like nightbus Tom Petty.

Oh stop this. I'm not that special; I just listen to Radiohead a lot.

After listening to THE WAR ON DRUGS, I did a little reading, and discovered (for myself) a guy named Kurt Vile.
Wow, did I miss the boat on this dude. Walking On A Sunny Daze is AMAZING!!!
Terrific!

Yeah, it's really solid. That was in heavy rotation for me last summer.

I can.
"Coming Of Age" is about as perfect a single as you'll likely hear this year.
They are great live as well.

I'm not a huge Metallica guy but this sounds interesting. I think it's out there without the band's blessing (duh), so you might have to scrounge around for it. This is from this week's Reader:

Metallica, . . . And Justice for Jason When bassist Jason Newsted joined Metallica, legend has it that his bandmates hazed the shit out of him—among other things, they're supposed to have deliberately buried all his bass parts inaudibly low in the mix of 1988's . . . And Justice for All. However it happened, it resulted in one of the most complex and engaging records in metal history sounding notoriously limp. Thank goodness for the Internet, where you can find a remixed version of the album with Newsted turned up. Recommended listening, especially if you're in a band—you'll never take the guy on the dumb strings for granted again.

Eh. I think the crispness of the sound without the bass makes much of the Justice album. Not all of it, but most of it. Blackened, Harvester, One, all sound better.

Hey, have we talked about what a really terrible song "Safe and Sound" is? Because "Safe and Sound" is a really terrible song.

They were on Letterman, or maybe Craig Ferguson last night. Whichever show they were on, they sounded good--a difficult trick on those shows.

Jimmy Carter talked pimps, hos and clits on Letterman last night.

Same here. Looks like they were either here and I missed them or they are nowhere near Chicago for their tour. Fantastic.

The Beck album is really good...it's very even. It's very subdued. There isn't an upbeat "sun eyed girl" or anything like that, but I do really like it.

Finally heard "Happy." It's the black song white people can agree on! You know, like "Hey Ya."
