I was watching a little bit of yesterdays epic 16 vs. 16 matchup and the thing that struck me was just how unfair it is that the school is forced to provide value to these students at an artificially high rate. It's only conference affiliation that put them in the tournament at all. I'd be very surprised if any of the players in this game could get playing time at Iowa or Tennessee and even at those places there are very few players who are providing value to the school equal to the benefits they receive. They would probably have to pay their own way and walk-on there and yet we are providing them with so much more than the value they provide. Yet, they take advantage of a system that provides them value that far exceeds what they bring to the school. I think it is more than fair to adjust the compensation level for these players to more accurate levels. It goes against the very concept of fairness that these players are getting a "free ride" without providing value. To make matters worse, they aren't even real students. They are just there to play basketball and they don't even care about the education because they are too busy trying to beat whatever small school they are rivals with.

So, I propose that we start to rank the top 100 NCAA basketball players, and we let them stay on scholarship. If you aren't ranked as one of the top 100 NCAA basketball players, you have to pay your school $1,000 a month to make up for the lack of value you are providing. In fact, since we are finally starting to pay players what they deserve, we can even throw some money to the top 25 basketball players! We can pay them for the value they provide! So, we can stop feeling sorry for Jabari Parker and the fact that he has to wait until June to make millions, and we can start giving him tens of thousands of dollars now!

Cincinnati is currently being beaten by a bunch of guys who pay to play basketball. Hopefully, this is the future of college basketball. The Cincinnati players don't deserve the over the top compensation they receive.

They get to graduate from the equivalent of the University of Chicago.

I don't think I can make my argument any stronger...
