I know. I just really liked two years ago sitting around and drinking and watching the US Open at Olympic on Saturday night.

Anyway, yeah August is awesome.

So you enjoyed the first two rounds at Doral this year more than the Masters.

Lame.

I said on this very website a couple weeks ago that that crazy day at Doral was the most fun I've had watching PGA golf, so yes.

Augusta is awesome, would play there over any course in the world, but that doesn't make the Masters as a tournament more fun to watch than any other. Love seeing the course on tv no doubt, but in terms of quality of golf give me last year's US Open at Merion over the Masters AINEC.

I think that's reading a little too much into his very controversial statement that Pebble Beach is more beautiful that it's also beautiful neighbor.

I know. It was a play on JORR's thoughts about going to events live, or watching them on TV.

The microdiscectomy was performed Monday by neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Rich in Park City, Utah. The statement said Woods will begin "intensive rehabilitation and soft-tissue treatment" within a week, and the goal is for him to return to competition "sometime this summer."

Maybe shakes or someone else here who has had their back worked on can expand on the procedure and/or
pain involved. Description below from the interwebs....

In a microdiscectomy or microdecompression spine surgery, a small portion of the bone over the nerve root and/or disc material from under the nerve root is removed to relieve neural impingement and provide more room for the nerve to heal.

A microdiscectomy is typically performed for a herniated lumbar disc and is actually more effective for treating leg pain (also known as radiculopathy) than lower back pain.

Impingement on the nerve root (compression) can cause substantial leg pain. While it may take weeks or months for the nerve root to fully heal and any numbness or weakness to get better, patients normally feel relief from leg pain almost immediately after a microdiscectomy spine surgery

I can't see how somebody who had major back surgery could be out playing competitive golf in udner 3 months. That is just my $0.02. Regarding the Masters, he wouldn't have won anyway.

Jack's record appears to be safe, at least safe from Tiger.

I had a microdiscectomy when I was 18. I felt pretty normal after 3 months, but golfing probably wouldn't have gone well. But I was 18 and not however old Tiger is.

It could be roids. It also could be just that he is pushing 40 years old, has already had knee and back issues, and has been a professional athlete for 18 years now.

With this surgery and Tiger only playing in a mere three tournament this season and finishing 80th, cut, and withdrawing in 22nd place, I don't see how he can continue to be ranked the #1 golfer in the world. Regardless of what the rankings say he hasn't been anywhere close to the one of the top ten players in the world for a few weeks now.

huh I guess he wasn't faking it after all. I've had 7 of these surgeries so I'm definitely the resident expert. First surgery is actually not that bad, usually a 6 week time period until you are back to 100% activity. Not sure about golf though since I was coming back to basketball at the time of surgery #1. I'm guessing its probably not much different, probably 8 weeks maximum for him to get back to swinging a club as hard as he wants.

Now if the problem comes back that's a whole different story. Recovery from second surgery is no sure thing and can be MUCH longer. The presence of scar tissue from surgery #1 is a problem and can often lead to major irritation of the sciatic nerve that can take months and months to go away.

Yep , Tiger won't be the one breaking it if it does fall.

If Tiger doesn't do it, and that looks unlikely at this point, then it isn't getting broken. There are way too many good golfers nowadays for anybody to be able to get to 18.

As great as Phil is, he has five. Two of them were when he was older than Tiger is now.

The only young guy that has more than one is Rory.

I agree, not likely going to happen. I haven't been paying close attention to golf for the last ten years, but it may be awhile before anyone completes the career grand slam.

If not the chase after Jack then Tiger should at least be remembered for changing the game immensely. Guys train different since him, the ideal of golfer fitness and equipment, the courses lengthened all because of him. So in a sense he killed himself. He created so to speak all of these great young golfers he now can rarely beat. Just too many of them. That is besides his own self destructive behaviors.

I didn't realize it had been quite that long (2008) since Tiger had won a major. Where do most people rank him all time as of now?

Phil needs a US Open.
Angel Cabrera needs a US Open and a British.
Els needs a Masters and a PGA Championship.
Rory needs a Masters (which I believe he will get) and a British.
Vijay needs a US Open and a British. He is 51, so I doubt it.

What self destructive behavior affected his golf? His "self destructive behavior" was pussy other than his wife's. If anybody could relate, it's you.

By the way, he was knee deep in pussy, while he was kicking everybody's ass, and making them like it.

I will still watch as much as I possibly can. Obviously, it's more interesting when he is kicking ass, but those that love golf will be watching.

He has to be first or second on everybody's list, or their list is invalid. I have him 2nd, although he isn't done yet.

Yeah, I don't see Ern or Angel getting it done.
I doubt Phil will ever win the US open after pissing one away.
Mcilroy is young enough but it's still hard to do. Think of the greats who only could get three of the four; Trevino, Palmer, Snead. I think Hogan, Player, Jack and Tiger are the only ones to do it. I know Jones did it without the PGA and Masters; US Amateur, British Amateur, US Open and British Open in one year.

And wow, I can't believe Vijay is 51! How time flies.

I can't say that I know all of his self destructive behaviors but the one you mentioned seemed to at the time take him off the course and/or fuck with him mentally for a couple of years. Others have mentioned a suspicion his body is breaking down lately as well due to him really getting buff possibly ala A Rod/Bonds.

So there smartie that's what I meant.

In the Masters era, there have only been five career grand slam winners.

Jack
Tiger
Ben Hogan
Gary Player
Gene Sarazen

I forgot about Gene. Too lazy to use the google.
