The biggest difference is that most of the future Cubs core is still playing in the minor leagues. Last year what Rizzo was doing in Des Moines was getting more coverage than what the Cubs were doing. That should be mocked.

The future Sox core will be playing at the big league level. Why shouldn't fans get excited to see those guys live?

Davidson might start in the minors and Eaton was in the minors last year, so was Garcia?

Baez, Almora and Soler are 20 and 21, Bryant is 22...and I think they are all on the path to be here for some period in 2014...

Not sure why Sox fans care so much that the cubs prospects are not promoted yet.

This isnt a place for Cubs/Sox hate. This is a place to discuss the Cubs upcoming 2014 season.

This losing is funny. First you hate it, then you get used to it. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on it. That's institutionalized. They make you a fan for life, that's exactly what they take. The part that counts anyways.

The year before the Sox won 85 with things going their way. The year before that 79 and before 88. A pattern? Somehow they went from decent 85 to inexplicably bad at defense and errors as well as unlucky in a lot of areas last season. On paper they have some better players than last year as well. So why is it preposterous to think 81 this year is possible should things fall right?

Exactly pittmike! If everything should fall the Cubs way we'll be celebrating the 2014 Wild Card champions.

Ok then. Good luck to them. I thought I heard Theo as saying no way on the kids this year unless Sept maybe. I expect another sell off. But should that change then sure go for it.

Don't think Theo said that r anything close to it. He hasn't even ruled out Bryant who was just drafted

Good point about the pattern. But 18 games is a great improvement

The other thing I see rarely talked about is Theo needs to make one more major stocking move. I feel that this year one of these guys down there goes for 2 or more pitchers.

I know it's been touched upon here before, but if you get production from Olt I think the clock is sped up just a bit. I also fully expect the Cub to have a damn good back end of the pen this year. I'm fully aboard the Strop bandwagon.

This is my favorite part of this thread.

I honestly don't remember any coverage of what he did in Des Moines last year.

I must say the buzz out of Spring Training with these young guys is great. Baez, Bryant and Almora certainly seem like they are real and with Olt, Villanueava and Candelaria at 3b, plus Alcantra there is alot of depth for trading purposes.

I feel pretty darn optimistic.

Now maybe we can get Ricketts to sell to a real owner??!!

:D :D :D :D :D

Depends if you mean coverage on the board or in media? This prospects stuff has gotten out of hand you must admit. Sure it looks promising but one, they may not all pan out and two they may not pan out here as they may be moved for more parts.

I go back to Brooks Keyschnick and when Kerry Wood started. I have never seen so much over the top love for Cubs prospects ever. I hope for the coronary health of Cubs fans some of this stuff works out.

Nor I.

Imaginary media consumption.

I see the same. It looks good but 1927 Yankees not yet. I seriously hope for the sake of Cub fans these guys do not become the Braves without the one series win. Every year teasing and nothing to show.

Just the sheer volume of quality depth is great to see. They have at least 6-7 International guys they signed that have real potential that are getting minimal pub (see Cubs Prospects thread) too, so this is great to see.

Sure most will NOT turn in to quality big leaguers but good to see guys like Baez, Bryant and Almora in particular looking so good so far.

I go back to the days of Carl Pagel so it actually appears this front office knows what the hell it is doing in evaluating talent.

Yep that is my point some may but some may not? To see Bernsie lead the Cub fans to a certain championship with prospectus and such is a thing that makes me fear for Cub fans. I hope it all works.

There are a lot of teams like Bernsie's beloved Oakland that have been doing this. Their last title was when Larussa was still there?
