As a marketing director, do you feel good about yourself when you rip off other teams ideas? or come up with something like Southpaw? or the lightest marketing achievement of losing Bacardi as a sponsor, then not being able to find one and calling it ChiSox Bar and Grill. You couldn't even work a deal with your buddies at Gibson's to call it Gibsons at the Park? and they provide the food.

While it can be sponsored to make more $$$, so can an ATV hauling a platform of hot chicks shooting T shirts into stands, or a simple target toss game for fans between innings.

Oh, I forgot, Hawk, DJ, Stone and Farmer are beloved symbols of White Sox baseball and sell the brand. That will be Rick Hahns next mess he has to clean up. Sox are lucky Hahn wanted to live in Chicago and stayed here. I am guessing it is the fond memories of the numerous Sock Ball games played as a youth in Wilmette. :D

I kind of like this... and I think they are more self-aware of the make-funability factor than some would have you believe. I'm not reallya fan of mascots-- any of them, but these are the same people that brought you Benny the Bull, and he's been pretty good for some fun-bad oh shit moments.

Didn't he drunkenly run over some people at the Taste a few years ago?

100% wrong, there are totally unaware of it. if they were ever aware of things, they would have media people that are good...or at very least that like each other. The humor is in the fact that they want people to like their radio and TV people, but the radio and TV guys don't like other. Even worse for them is that the TV guys, who get way more exposure than the radio crew, really don't like each other. I am sure some will have some other version of this, but reported and factually speaking the owner has had to meet with them each 2 times now about working together. I think it is the ultimate case of 'Jerry likes them, so you will like them'.

And to say they are the same people who brought you Benny the Bull, wrong again. Benny the Bull has been a Mascot since, at the very least the 70's, since before Reinsdorf owned the team.

It's not that it is a bad idea, it was someone elses good idea that the Sox took down a notch and yet continue to try and sell their product with terrible salespeople.

Wasn't Pat Williams the guy behind Benny the Bull? B&B have him on every year or two.

The Milwaukee Brewers should, really, get a residual check every time a team trots out a new racing anything.

Why? Because, much like how 20-25 years ago, every hack comedian had a sitcom deal…seemingly every Major League franchise is sending a huge bobbly-headed mascot to run around their field. Think about it. There are, of course, the Famous Racing Sausages in Milwaukee, the Racing Presidents in Washington, racing former players in both Oakland and Arizona…the list keeps growing.

And here comes the Chicago White Sox looking to sour the whole thing. Presenting…the White Sox Racing Announcers!

Image

Left to right, that's Darrin Jackson, Ed Farmer, Steve Stone and Hawk Harrelson. But don't worry, gang, they come equipped with their own monogrammed polo shirt should (gasp!)…you not know immediately what your favorite disembodied radio and TV voice look like.

And, frankly, why would you?

This will be the only race going on at the Cell this summer.

Yes, but I am going to say a number of people don't remember the original Benny. There was even a time the Bulls had old Benny and Evil looking Benny running around.

When I was a yute, Parents took me to Bulls game because nobody went and they probably got the tickets for free.

The real mascot though was "SUPER FAN"

You are so full of shit. You don't know this to be 100% true. Only way you know this is if you actually work in the Sox marketing department, but since you posted that you were "RETIRED" that cannot be the case.

Are jean skirts on male announcers as bad as no pants on a bear?

Did they race today? or do they even race?

I wasn't paying the utmost attention to the game, but I would think a marketing genius like Brooks would make sure the races are on TV?

I haven't watched much of either game either, so not sure if they showed it.

I would guess Hawk doesn't like it, thus he told Boyer, "We're not showing this shit on TV." He probably also told him that the Hawk has to have the winning record at the end of the year.

Even though it is a rip off, it works. I know fans will like it, if it is on TV. Could have just missed it.

You can ask why they had to be penis shaped? You could have just made a likeness of Hawk, DJ, etc. In Milwaukee they are sausages, thus the tube formation.

Not sure why the Sox did the same shape as a sausage?

The marketing department is subliminally trying to message that the announcers are dicks.

I care about the Sox. I want to see them win the World Series. I have made that very clear.

But more important did they run the announcing sausages yet on TV?

Yes, but looking to see if it has been on TV.

They always show the races when the Cub play the Brewer

I think they only race if more than 20k show up.
Tomorrow morning Coop is gonna be on Hanley and Roz to tell fans they need to show up to justify the expense of buying the new announcer/sausage/dildo costumes.

What's the next thing the Sox rip off from another team? You think they will have Paulie slide down into a tub full of beer after a White Sox homers?

They're gonna have a "rally orangutan" for the playoff run this year.

Or an actual green monster in place of the real green monster in Boston.

Wait.......

Its a good thing the Cubs never rip off other teams. They were, after all, the first ones in town to come up with a restaurant/bar in the park, a party area in center field, a mascot....oh wait.....

I don't think the Brewers show every sausage race. Sometimes they'll show a clip of it coming out of a break.

Wait.......
The idea that the White Sox mascot is stolen from a literal wall in Boston is one of the most hilariously awful connections I've ever heard.

Did the Cubs steal Clark The Cub from Superman or the candy bar?

If anything, it is a take on the Philly Phanatic since it was the same design company that did the predecessors.

I don't think Southpaw is a ripoff of any one mascot. It's just an attempt to have a Pansexual Non-Threatening Spokesthing like other teams. He's more of a pastiche than anything.
