Well, thank goodness Haim is releasing something for Bagels.

there's a few things i wouldn't mind having, but nothing that's going to make me actually go and stand in line

I went out last year, and got to my local record store about 15 mins before they were scheduled to open up. There was only about 10 people waiting outside, so I thought "Great, maybe I will be able to get a few things". Well it turns out they were actually letting people wait in the store also, so I ended up being behind close to 50 or 60 people. I don't think I will be going out for that again unless there is really something that stands out on the release list. It's gone from being a special thing where bands release a special 7" of a couple new songs, to now bands just mostly having special vinyl "releases" of albums that have been out for decades. RSD has jumped the shark. Keep it...

this....it's just capitalizing on collector scum who'll have whatever they bought up on eBay 2 hours later

i laugh when i see shit like Boston's first album as a 180g limited edition reissue, when you can get a used copy at any records store in the world for like 2$

a lot of it is just plain unnecessary

pretty good weather and coffee this morning, so i was a bit positive.... going back to when the band was proper, aka sascha gunter AND en esch, thank you drive through.

Image

accept no imitations. or chicks from drill that sascha fell in love with and just.... man i saw drill. she had a nice rack, i will give her that. but i was more there for the chemlab and sister machine gun part of the show.

but then i suppose it was kind of like when morcheeba opened for aphex twin at the vic. good luck with that.

awww yeah it's another one of those "aphex twin fridays" here in sinneapolis. we're digging up the deep cuts with >> tahnaiya russell - scirem so like MC5 and, well, the illuminati before me we're kicking out the JAMs on this friday!

this song kicks so much fucking ass i feel sorry for anyone who doesn't "get it." while i've grown to realize that my musical tastes aren't > * in the grand scheme of things (even tho they are most ppl just aren't the kind of "it-getters" that "my music" needs) still... this song is just ready to go off in one of 5 different directions at any given point and it's just so grand and YEAH that... yeah, it's grand.

You youngsters & your music...
I'm on a huge prog kick lately & I am re-visiting one of the greatest prog albums ever recorded, Steve Hacketts "Voyage of The Acolyte" from 1975. This is essentially a Genesis album released by Hackett as a solo record. I miss musicianship, creativity, competence & chops like this in music.

new Closure in Moscow album is going to be pretty damn good. Changed their style quite a bit since their debut:

It's not a terrible song, just an overplayed one.
Just finished watching Capital Cities on the webcast, they were very good.
Covered "Stayin' Alive" and "Nothing Compares 2 U" in pretty interesting ways.
I like 'em.

Tall Midget's Top Five, 3/15-4/15:

1)The Pains of Being Young at Heart, "Young Adult Friction"
2)Johnny Cash, "Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound"
3)Gillian Welch, "Everything is Free"
4)The Libertines, "Time for Heroes"
5)Jens Lekman, "Black Cab"

I've been enjoying Lekman and the Libertines quite a bit lately. For my money, the Welch song is one of the best alt-country tunes of the past two decades. The Cash cover of "Can't Help But Wonder" is the definitive version of the song.

Love that Welch song. I probably still listen to the first album more than any of the others in her discography but it's hard to beat Time (The Revelator).

reminds me a little of kathleen edwards' "mercury". that song rivals springsteen's "the river" in describing pathos in rural life.

2 Frank Sinatra - "My Way"
3 Big Sean (feat Nas and Kid Cudi) - "First Chain"
4 Schoolboy Q (feat BJ the Chicago Kid)- "Studio"
5 The Strokes - "The Other Side"

The lead singer seems to think she is hot...She is not. Could also use a shower.
