I heard on the radio today that Noah isn't all that great of a basketball player.

Don't need 'em.

That person should be fired.

Agreed. Taj in general is expendable, but not this offseason.

You ditch Taj at his peak or near it.

You keep Noah.

It has to be that way.

The Bulls shouldn't have to trade Taj.

Why doesn't the same logic apply to Noah? They both will be thirty next year. Sell high means sell now.

LOL B&B read an email from a guy that listed 20 players to have before Noah.

We don't know if Taj is at his peak right now. And him and Noah are the best defensive front court in the NBA, and there's not a close second. You add a top 3 scorer like Melo to that, and if Rose can come back at 80% or better and get to the rim at will, you have your legit championship contender.

Yep FF. It is funny how local radio heroes would have you believe there is never a chance for Bulls. Yet every year some team can throw shit together in the western conf and get their respect. They loved Portland at one point this year if I recall.

I agree Melo is enticing if and only if rose is rose. If not, then all you have is NY Midwest with a better coach. Not interested.

The Bulls are way, way better than Melo's current cast. Add in Thibs over Woodson and it's just a ridiculous comparison.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but I don't think there's been a surprise champ since Detroit ten years ago. Every champ since then has been a preseason favorite as well, except for maybe Dallas two years ago as well.

I still have not explained to me how this guy Melo is such a cancer. You take off Butler/Dunleavy and put in a solid 22 ppg. Even with his marginal defense this is terrible how?

Well we are talking contenders right? Does a Melo, Noah, Butler or Gibson or whomever core do it for you? That enough to beat LeBron, wherever he is, OKC, SA, or LAC? I don't think so. With Rose - yes, I'd be interested.

Yes I think it is. Read off San Antonio's roster, and once you realize Duncan is 37 or 38 or whatever, tell me if that sounds really impressive on paper.

I don't know what others have said, but my concern with him is being the face of a loser franchise in the worst conference ever. Well they did go to the postseason last year, but they haven't exactly put the league on notice after he forced a trade to go there. The Bobcats made it over them.

Right. Replace Dunleavy/Boozer with Melo and this is a potential 60 win team. Add in Miami getting old and hurt and Indiana self combusting and they'd have to be the favorites in the East next year.

Melo on this team makes a ton of sense, but it somewhat depends on what we'd have to move to get him here. To sign him, Taj would definitely have to go. To S&T for him, maybe not. There's a ton of scenarios, and it's hard to say what this team would look like if we obtained him.

What's not debatable is that he's a great offensive player, and we're a terrible offensive team. It's a really good fit. His main skill -scoring- would offset his main weakness -defense. Really, I don't think he's as bad a defender as most say. He's got the size and athleticism to defend two positions, and Thibs' defenses have been elite, almost regardless of who plays. The contract is what's scary. The Bulls have nice options with two draft picks coming, and some free-agency money. Obtaining Melo may or may not be the best option. But it's very intriguing. With Rose Back, you have two players who demand game-planning from opposing defenses.

It's weird to me that Bernstein totally dismissed the upside here earlier, but now he's come around to see it my way. He used to always be "Carmelo damn Anthony" and then completely dismissed his potential impact to this team, and then talked to "his guy" and has largely assuaged his previous doubts. Couldn't he think through this himself? This guy gets buckets. That's what this team needs.

The black hole theory, like his defensive issues, is largely overblown. He's not a great passer, but he's a willing enough passer. The degree to which his selfishness harms our offense will be swamped by the shot-making he brings.

A Bulls team with Melo won't necessarily be a favorite to win a title, but everyone who knows the NBA will consider the Bulls a strong contender. If you don't have Durant or LeBron, you're probably are fighting an uphill battle. That's all there is to it. Accepting that fact, you have to do what you can to give yourself the best chance at an upset. Melo offers a lot in that area.

I have changed my tune on Melo. FF and MITC make some good points.

Let's do this.

Since the year they lost to the Heat, Ive been of the opinion they need a scoring 2 guard. Melo is the best candidate

Uncle Jerry really has no clue how to run a basketball franchise anymore. If the Bulls would have been willing to part with Luol Deng 7 years ago, there would have easily been 5+ years of revenue streams with Kobe Bryant playing for the Bulls. I also guarantee a legend like Bryant would have been able to help pull a few big name free agents to Chicago as well.

All that said, landing Carmelo instantly makes the Bulls title contenders with Thibs coaching that team.

Jerry was willing to give up EVERYONE for Kobe but Kobe was going to veto the trade if Deng was included. He wanted to play with Deng and the Lakers wouldn't do it if Deng wasn't included.

Love this quote.

This is why I believe the Bulls are in great shape. Players around the league have taken notice to what Thibs does. A lot of them will want to come play for him.

Some have thought they would not play for Thibs as he is too demanding and/or too tough and will make them work too hard. I think the opposite. I think players want to be treated like men and if you let them know exactly their role and job responsibilities will play for anyone given the respect to them.

Results matter. The players have seen what he has done for the careers of those who were on there way out of the league and how he has gotten the most out of a group that lost their 2 best players. Considering where the Bulls were in December it is a miracle they finished the season with 48 wins. I said earlier this year if they win 41 he should be CoY and the won 7 more and actually had a great chance to win 50.

There is a report that says the salary cap will increase to a little over $71M next season. IF that is the case the Bulls will have about $24M in cap space if they amnesty Boozer. I know some of that is tied up to cover draft picks but the Bulls could always trade a pick for a trade exception and have even more money. They'll have more than enough money to sign a guy like Bosh or Melo. Even if they bring over the European sensation they could always find more cap space without trading Taj.

No move I make involves trading Taj unless Lebron is in it.

Looking at the potential free agents it wouldn't make sense to trade Taj UNLESS you are signing LeBron and trading for Love. That isn't happening. A lot of you all love Melo but he's older than all of the Bulls core players. I'm not trading Noah or Taj. Any team looking to rebuild wouldn't have any use for them.

Not trying to challenge your core point but I believe Melo, Noah, and Taj are around the same age. Probably a year difference between Melo and those guys, plus LeBron too. Love is Rose's age I think or slightly older.

You are right. Melo and LeBron will be 30 this year and Taj and Noah will be 29. I thought Melo was the same age as Wade.

Either way at 29 there is not much you can get for Taj or Noah when it comes to young talent. Sure you could get draft picks but those draft picks will suck because they will help their teams win. Only trade market for Taj and Noah now are championship caliber teams. I'm happy about that.
