anyone have a favorite au gratin/scalloped potato recipe ?

not something i make everyday, but need to for Easter dinner




i know i can basically just make a standard cheese sauce, dump it over sliced potatoes and bake, but figured someone might have a good one they use

My wife doesn't make a formal au gratin recipe but makes something similar with hash brown potatoes, velveeta and a corn flake crust. This is always a big hit at family dinners as a side dish.

Food app called "all the cooks" has some great cheesy potato recipes. I'm sure they have au gratin too. I can't link to it, but if you search, it would work.

well i mean there's a shit ton on Food tv.com....but a lot of them are similar, then you get caught up reading the reviews and there's always some that say it sucks, the recipe proportions are off, etc. and i get scared

No, you can use Velveeta - I'm pretty much a food snob but it works in this dish because it melts perfectly. You can try doing it with cheddar, but the consistency isn't perfect. It's great if you have kids too - they love it.

Yeah... I've had success using items that have a ton of reviews and a great average rating. To me, the key is the number of reviews. In the words of Dan Bernstein, It's all about the sample size!!!
