I think Grote is also in the mix for Mac's opening in June. One of the reasons Mitch is letting him work with Mac. Larry had his tryout when Mac was in rehab. Drinky had his tryout. Now it's Grote's turn.

I think Grote is well liked by management. He's more intelligent than the station's producers. Well spoken. Does he know a lot about sports? No. I mean he's got the basics down, but that's about it. He's not gonna say anything very interesting or insightful. Nor will he say anything controversial or offensive. He never seems to get angry about anything. You can't really offend him. He'll take any insults with a smile.

The thing about Grote is he just wants to be a goof on the air. He just wants to have fun. He's not a Bernstein clone. Grote is always happy. At least when he's on the air.

From management's perspective, he's low maintenance and won't cause any problems or trouble. He's a "Go along to get along" type of guy. He's unlike those high-strung, angry, edgy producers that want to be jack asses and say stupid stuff 24/7. He doesn't have the inferiority complex of a producer because he was hired right away as on air talent.

Wasn't Grote the one who recently announced on-air to anyone who cared--i.e., nobody--that he was an alcoholic? Assuming so, can't think of a better pairing.

i think a lot of people like Grote and I for one appreciated the seemingly heartfelt statement he read when he came back.

As for giving him a show, he seems to be more suited for a sidekick role and he could do a good job feeding off a strong established radio personality.

He is an alcoholic? In that case, he'll fill in perfectly for Mac.

Recovering, I believe. I would love to hear Grote in a permanent co-host role.

Greg, why don't you take Grote out for a few drinks and test his knowledge of sports? I am sure you could quench his thirst.

Grote has some knowledge, but would like him in a 3 man booth. He can still do updates and be part of 1 show.

That is inappropriate, sir.

Fair enough. I feel bad now. Still, does the world need to know?

I have been critical of Grote for years, but I have warmed up to him recently & have enjoyed him of late.

He doesn't do traffic, so he's a CBS guy.

Shadow Traffic does general subcontracting of on-air talent, not just traffic.
