How so?

Just being in the south.

Like, if Dan and Terry had to pick another place to live, I would bet Atlanta would be pretty far down on the list.

Much of the show seems dedicated to poking fun at rednecks and I think they're are probably a lot more in Atlanta than Chicago.

It would be like if Mac got a job on NBA TV or Les worked at a rest stop.

I guess that would be the case if you think all the producers believe exactly what Boers and Bernstein believe (or say on the air).

In my time listening, Jason partook in the redneck bashing quite a bit (and again, I dont blame him or them one bit)

And Atlanta is 54% black.

I've heard Jason play drops and make jokes. Bashing? I dunno...

Drops, jokes, bashing, whatever you want to call it, it is a main theme for the show.

It's the whole schtick that everyone at the Score gets from Bernstein... the "fans are all idiots" schtick. It takes a certain personality and situation to do it effectively. Bernstein does it well, I'll admit, but he's smart enough to do it and plan out defenses when he comes off like a hypocrite.

Goff tried to copy it. Loho and Drinky try also. It's just not who they are, and the Score is one of the few places where it would even fly. When Goff used to do his Chicago accent that he stole from Dan, it made me cringe. Not funny and almost uncomfortable. That's why it wouldn't surprise me if they got fed up with Goff in Atlanta. They all need to learn to be themselves and they'll be a lot better off.

Did you guys ever listen to his show? I did.

It sounds like a lot of assumptions are being made here...

Yes I did. It was okay when he wasn't trying to be Bernstein.

Anything like the assumption that anyone who is south of I-80 is an ignorant redneck rube?

I never got the "trying to be Bernstein" vibe from the show.

I thought it was really good. I wished it were a national show so I didn't have to skip through all the Atlanta sports talk so much.

One thing I noticed is he's much more comfortable as a host now. On the Score, he would rush through things and get tounge tied a lot.

Yes, they do.

They use to play the Sanford and song theme for ANY old black guy. The southern thing is icing on the cake.

I don't think he did it as much as he did in Chicago from what I heard when I listened. But it was still there, IMO. White History Month isn't how I would begin my "brand" in a new city, even if it was funny. But I'm not in the industry, so maybe I'm wrong on that one.

I've heard that before. Not sure how true it is. I know a good number of the men on Housewives of Atlanta are.

Think about it. Goff probably said and did the same stupid shit in Atlanta that he did at the Score for 13 years. At least half of those years he was pretty much a co host on the Score's afternoon show. He was probably never called into Mitch's office for anything. Mitch's attitude was, "If Bernstein is cool with it, I'm cool with it." In fact, Mitch licked Goff on the way out if you remember some of his quotes. Saying he was a great talent and will be big in the business.

Goff goes to Atlanta, with no Bernstein protection, and he's fired in a a year and a half.

Now, we'll see if Mitch really meant what he said about Goff, cuz now he can hire him back. I never really thought Mitch meant what he said. Just trying to say nice things cuz what the hell does it matter.

Then again, as Good Dolphin said, maybe Mitch won't be allowed to hire a fired CBS employee. Maybe that's a corporate policy.

So a guy gets a chance,

Does his own thing,

Gets fired for doing so,

and is somehow required to care what those that never took a chance... think of him professionally?

Take the day off Beardown.

Not at all. It was still the right move to take that job in Atlanta. Except I don't think he did his own thing. He did Bernstein's thing. I never listened but that's what people said who did listen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Game's daytime lineup a veritable all-star team of Atlanta media members and sports alumni? Randy Cross, Jamie Dukes, Kordell Stewart, some host from NBA TV? You lose 25% of your already small audience in a month, you have to do something, but can't necessarily do anything -- maybe you just don't have the say-so from up above to fire Kordell Stewart. So you go after the weakest target available, say you made a change, and then best of all cut costs by have rotating part-timers do a full-timer's show. "Go after the weakest target" shouldn't be a concept altogether unfamiliar to Jason, who employed it when he blamed poor White Sox attendance on families who are struggling in a recession.

Good point. A few people have made some good points in this thread.

From what I've read, that station is doing HORRIBLE. They'll all eventually get whacked. Probably a format change. Seems like Goff just made it easy for them to get him first.
