It had to have come from the ice. There is no way that the ref's mic picked it up that distinctly, from the crowd, which was in a frenzy. It was most likely Keith. His "non-denial" denial was pretty damning.

Hawks fans were pretty pissed, and rightfully so, after Hossa got lit up by Torres, and Seabrook got lit up by Wiesniewski. There seems to be a lot of excuse making for Seabrook right now. Hawks fans are quick to call other teams dirty. Then they can't defend saying "wakey wakey" after Backes was drilled by a dirty hit. Bickell sticking out his knee was right out of Slapshot. That was bush league.

Very true. I've embraced it and played up the "wakey wakey" stuff to my Blues fans roommates and friends to their self-righteous horror. I now have a taste of how Flyers fans feel. Playing the heel is pretty fun.

One can only be lectured so many times how it was dirty. Yes, we get it. It's a bad hit. Seabrook's been disciplined and their up 2-0. Chill the shit out.

There's nothing to defend. Players say dumb stuff all the time.

Look at the play - Keith didn't see the hit, he was clearing the puck the other direction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSNtMDkRjBA

Both Keith and Toews are reacting to Backes challenging people to a fight whil he's being held up by his trainer ( ). I'd say dumb stuff to somebody trying to fight me while half-unconscious for any reason - most people would.

Keith was too busy slashing anybody within his reach.

Backes was clearly in another world. They were whining after Hossa got drilled. They need to pick a lane.

People who say "wakey wakey" as a way of showing support for the Hawks should be beaten with a bag of nickels.

Beating people who are different than you sounds like "bullying". What a tangled web we weave......

That was two years ago, kind of past the statute of limitations on picking a lane, one has to think. Any Chris Chelios sins we still need to atone for while we're at it?

An excuse maker would have to think that. A dirty hit is a dirty hit.

It is the same core group of players. Try again.

Damn Chus, Seabrook gooned Backes up, Keith was slashing a guy as he cleared the puck. Anyone else on the ice that did something wrong?

Fortunately through his charity of saving dogs he likely has many worthy candidates to act as his seeing eye dog to navigate through his light-less house.

This isn't about me. It's about Hawks' fans making excuses for behavior that they complain about, when exhibited by other teams.

The Hawks are getting beat, and losing their composure. This is fact.

I'm not making any excuses. Of course it was a dirty hit. My point of contention is simply that David Backes is not worthy of martyrdom.

Who is making a martyr of out Backes? All I am doing, is commenting on the Hawks' fans, who excused this hit, but whined about Hossa getting ruined.

The bigger story is the Hawks are getting beat, and losing their composure. It seems that many fans don't understand this. Not that I am all that surprised. Most Hawks' fans that I know, couldn't name more than a few players on the roster seven or eight years ago.

So players talking shit and taunting each other is now some horrible, world changing, society destroying event?

This show plumbs new depths on a daily basis.

Danny Deadspin never plumbs those depths alone.

We talked about this at the Cubs game. I will forever be burdened with being a Lions' fan. It's rough.
