http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi- ... 10150.postShrimp fishermen were in for a shock when they pulled in an incredibly rare goblin shark off of Key West, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
This marks the second time a goblin shark has ever been recorded in the Gulf of Mexico and the last catch was 10 years ago.
Generally, the "living fossil," as it's been nicknamed, is found off Japan, in the Indian Ocean or near South Africa, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The bizarre, 18-foot-long creature was photographed on deck and then hoisted back into the water. It was caught April 19, but wasn't reported to the NOAA until Wednesday.
